(Draught) How-To: Get more info. from your MINI's cpu (Digital RPM, Speed, Volts etc)

Seeing as I mentioned it in another thread elsewhere on MINI2, here's a quick how-to on getting a bit more information from your MINI's computer I learnt a some time ago, it should still be valid. The information displays in place of your mileometer, so you DO NOT have to have the MINI OBC/Trip Computer option to see this.
With the key in the ignition, but in the off position, press and hold down the odometer reset button, while holding the button down, switch the key in the ignition to position 1.

The screen will say 'Test' and a number.

Scroll through, (pressing reset button) through to test 19 and wait a moment.

Wait and the message will say "log i-off" then "log i-on" and back to "log i-off" again. When "log i-off" appears, press again. You are now in the system. (Woooo)

You can (if you wish) start the ignition any time from now.

Scroll through to test 7.0 and wait a moment, after a pause you will enter the test 7.* range of information. You can scroll through now (7.1,7.2,7.3 etc.) using the reset button.

This information shows you:

7.0 is Coolant temperature.
7.2 is RPM.
7.3 is Speed (km/h).

You can exit each menu by pressing, holding for a few seconds, then releasing the reset button.

Other useful/playful things I know are:

9.0 is Volts.

13.0 is gong test.

To leave the system scroll to 19 and leave it for a few moments.
Switching off the ignition also exits the system.

Notes and disclaimer:

I cant check to see if there's anything fresh available since I originally learnt this from the original source , and I've not been able to get speed into MPH, if you can update this, then feel free to do so.
There are other bits of information on there, but most make little or no sense, or serve (as far as I can see) no practical use, if I recall or learn anything else that might be practicle (especially for those with no OBC option), I will post it.
Your MINI's computer may give more or less information than stated above.
I/MINI2 also take no responsibility/liability for how/if you use this information, and if you break anything in the the process, it's your own fault, not mine!

Doesn't work on my 03 MCS w/ navigation.

I can only scroll through to 1.7 and then it returns to 1.0. It never gets to 19.

beat you aiden... must've printed a coupla minutes before you! now i realise you ran out of ink while i was typing! ... sucker!

oct '02 MCS & it all works as above!
make sure you hit the reset button while it says "log i-off", as hitting it while "log i-on" is displayed will exit the test!

7.0 - Temp must be in fahrenheit - 37 @ Rest / 61 After 100m
7.1 - Dunno / sat around 145-9 @ rest & didn't budge much after startingor driving
7.2 - RPM as above / Fairly responsive actually
7.3 - Speed / Jumps about as described earlier / OK with smooth acceleration / Must update in set time increments rather than speed increments as it'll easily do 1km/h increments when driving slowly!

9.0 - Volts would seem reasonable given the figure, but it says ~140 is that deciVolts or something?

now we just have to wait for mini to allow a digital aftermarket console that displays ALL this stuff at once!

TomM - i think i know where you went wrong, try this exactly...

* hold reset / turn key to position 1... release reset
* scroll through to 19 [i mad 1 / 2 / 10 / 19 only]... wait a second
* scroll through to 7 [or 9 for volts as above]... wait a second
* [i think this is where you went wrong, & only scrolled through to 1]
* scroll through from 7.0 to 7.3 with displays as above!

i may be wrong, & it may be an '03 or satnav issue, but give it a go!

cheers
