Question Navigation "Monitor Off"

Hello all,

When I turn the navigation system to the "Monitor off" option, the screen still glows faintly, like a powered-up computer LCD that isn't receiving a signal. This is a bit annoying when I'm driving at night and don't need (or want) the navigation system on. It would be better if the screen could go completely black.

I was wondering if anyone knows a way to turn the monitor off completely, or if it's impossible. In that case, is there some sort of lid sold that could be fitted over the screen to block it? If none are available, I might make my own. I love the Mini, but this is just a minor annoyance that needs to be dealt with... Thanks for any suggestions!

- Emmanuel

I was waiting for someone to finally mention this. This is a fairly new thing. This only started happening with a certain build of MINI. I have one of the first 2003's and the monitor goes completely black but the new ones dont for some reason. Would love to know why.

Mine is a July 03 build and did the same thing. follow the threads for installing latest sat nav firmware. Since updating firmware I now have temp under the map display and if I set a maximum speed warning that is displayed aswell (no idea what use that is) but now the screen switches off completely.
