Handfree Kit Fitting. Hyde Park Corner

Just thought I would share this with you all, and also see if anyone can tell me what this numbnuts could have done wrong!!

Had a hands free kit fitted yesterday by http://www.hydeparkcorner.co.uk/

Reason being, change in law, and the company pay for it, thats who has the contract. I made sure when I called them and booked it all that they knew I wanted a bumper mounted ariel, as I need a new windscreen, also didn't want to see it. Also told them the car, the year, and that it had a glove box so I wanted the bracket the goes on the inside of the left pillar to mount it on. All seemed so easy, asked the installer guy if he had worked on a mini before, yes sure no problems!

Well all was done, after they turned up 2 hours late, and left me my car. Come home time got in my car, thought wow, at last all legal and looking good. Closer inspection showed he had not used the mounting bracket I wanted, but one that wraps around the post, oh well I thought, hold on whats this on my windscreen? Its an ariel

I thought well at least its there now and I am ready to go. Driving down the road, oh the climate control is not on, must have turned it off when fitting, so turn it on, bloody hell its cold in here. Turn it up, to full, still blowing only cold air??? What has this idiot done when fitting the kit!!

Oh then this morning, tried to get something out my glove box, gloves seeing as I had no heat, can I get in there? No, because he has used the wrong bracket!!

Got in eventually, but the bracket broke!! So now my handfree kit sits in the cup holder!!

So anyone got any ideas why I have lost all heat in the car, as they are coming back out tomorrow to sort it out, I am not amused and I am very cold in my car, thank god for heated seats!!! I also thought it might help some of you be a bit more careful when letting someone fit this in your cars too.

Hmm.. If no fuses are blown sounds like they may have hijacked some wiring to power the unit and it's knocked the a/c out.

Were they approved by your phone operator? Maybe you could go to them and complain as well.

Got a handsfree kit fitted in my MINI a couple of years ago buy an Orange approved installer and had no problems...

Hope you get it sorted

the MINI has gone...

they are supposed to be approved by Vodaphone and O2

climate control is still on, but no hot air

And they were instructed to not patch to any wires but use one of those modular things to wire it in so it uses the stereo speakers and mutes the radio, which it does do.

????

Did you find any blown fuses? Strange how only the hot air doesn't work..

In the old days this used to be fed by the engine water supply, electrical changes wouldn't have caused any problems! Must be some kind of regulator or something thats buggered....

Could be one of their wires is snagging one of the servos that moves the heater flaps when they have pushed everything behind the dash

thanks guys for the tips, will certainly pass them on to the numbnut that comes this afternoon to sort it out, and if not I will be flaming this company even more so no other unfortunate mini owners have to freeze in their cars.

Mikey got it right, I now have heating!! Now they need to get the kit fitting properly so it doesn't catch the dash and I have shown him the bracket he is supposed to use, but I don't think he has one

Hope his spurs don't mark my car!

Yeah!!! He found the right bracket, and the car is all perfect and working correctly now!!

Made me think of what it was like having my old mini classic with no heat in the car this morning.
