Auto Air-con retrofit?

Just wondering guys,

I've already got manual air-con, is there a retrofit available to upgrade my Cooper to auto air-con? And if so, how much does it cost?

Cheers!

Mark

Don't think there is an easy retrofit. The parts are totally different. I was looking for info on how to retrofit the manual to the auto, as I really do not like the auto. Was not easily done.

If memroy serves, someone had posted up some pages from the workshop manual showing the pieces and parts required to do so. Do a search and I'm sure you will find it.

Regards,

Dave

Gotten anything useful from MINI2? How about giving a little something back?

Its really not easy or worth it, better to change the whole car.

The manual A/C works better than the auto IMO

Dave

I'm with you on this one Dave. I would have greatly preferred the manual A/C setup to the Auto A/C that came with the Premium package on my car.

Auto AC is the best, set it and forget it, I make about 3 adjustments all year or what I would do before I pulled out of the driveway on the first day with the manual.

MiniE, I would leave the idea of retrofitting Auto AC. All cabling and sensors must be fitted (a lot of them), along with the dashboard knob panels. I also suspect that the ECU must be programmed
My Mini dealer ordered wrongly a manual AC car for me, and quickly left the idea and ordered a new correctly equipped car instead.
A search on this forum will discover several threads on this, as far as I have seen no-one have done or tried this.

As I have tried both, I would also recommend manual AC.
The automatic function is very good, but the fan is a lot more noisy than on a manual AC car. I never use the "Auto" knob, as the fan then runs at silly speeds. I just have set the temp at 21 C and leave the fan speed at step 1.
But the problem is that step 1 is a lot more noisy on my car than the previous with manual AC.
Therefore, enjoy your car as it is, at least regarding to the AC...
Best, Tore

Without an accessory brochure in front of me I can't be 100% certain, but IIRC there is a retrofit kit to change from manual to auto air con, but it is mega money, something like £1200 before fitting.

my mini was the 1st of a few to be out in where i live, at the time i can't really wait for a reorder.
