Just wondering if anyone's got the fitted handsfree kit that Mikeythemini does (http://www.newministuff.co.uk/)? What's the sound quality like? Does it work well? What about sound quality on the other end of the phone - does the mic pick up your voice well, particularly at motorway speeds (I have a Magnex exhaust too so my Cooper is a bit louder than stock ), and is there any feedback?
Any experiences would be good before I take the plunge 'cos it's quite a lot of money :-)
I think Mikeythemini's kit just runs as an interface between your phone's hands free kit and your Mini's radio, so it wouldn't come with a microphone. I sent him an email the other day for more info so I will update this thread when I hear back from him (unless he beats me to it).
Fitted my kit from him this morning, sound quality is good. I havent tested on the road because of the ice but I had my car running and reving for testing.
The kit I got was a bluetooth kit with the wiring loom.
Cool - so, when your phone rings, does the radio (or cd) automatically mute and then the ringing tone comes out of the speakers? If so, what if your radio is off, you won't hear it ringing?? Or does it still ring out of your phone? Then when you hang up it goes back again?
Whats the sound quality like from the other end? Does it pick up your voice well? Where did you mount the mic?
My kit is the bluetooth kit (with muting loom). I mounted the mic just behind the clock and it picks up my voice fine. Ive been told that the reception on the other end is good, but im sure that has something to do with your signal anyway.
The mic and button come with fitted velcro pieces, as the mic was to fit on the carpet roof surface, I only used the hook part of the velcro. I mounted the button on the wing mirror control panel, as shown on mikes site with both pieces of velcro.
Call process.
=========
The kit comes with a speaker that you can use instead of the wiring loom to put calls through the stereo. I have chosen to put it through the stereo because if you are listening to music and accept a call, you dont have to bother muting the stereo and accept the call.
When you make a call, or accept a call, the radio is muted and the phone call is routed through the front speakers.
If the radio is not on then the call still goes ahead. The phone doesnt make a noise, it is all routed through the stereo speakers or through the included speaker.
Im not sure about the included speaker, but with the stereo muting call kit, the ring tone that you hear is not your own, but it is a good ringtone, nothing silly and very bearable, unlike the nokia ringtone !
Hope this helps, any more questions and i'll try to answer them
Thanks for the help matey - just one last point...
Do you actually have to press "answer" to then change the mode on the radio, or as soon as it starts ringing, does it change the mode (and mute) automatically?
By the way, perhaps the ringtone you're hearing is another ringtone in the "in-car" profile or something, that's activated when you plug the kit in. You should be able to change it! It's just in a different profile.
You have a point about the profile. I have a 6600 and have a feature to automatically accept calls, I also am very used to without looking poking at the call button on my phone, but you do have to accept the call by pressing an "accept call" button.
Yeah, that's cool. Was just wondering if it just changed the stereo mode and muted AFTER you've accepted the call (ie. the ringtone isn't heard through the speakers) or if it is muted as soon as it starts ringing, and you then choose whether to accept or not.
