Black Cooper What to do with those rears?

Hi Guys,

Would really appreciate any advice.

I recently upgraded the wholely inadequate factory sound in my MCS with a set of Hertz splits coupled with a 10" Hertz sub all running off an Audison SRX4 amp.

Now, this all is fine and dandy, but my standard rear speakers were left in during the install, supposedly as "filler" speakers. Problem is I feel they degrade the overall sound quality and want to replace them with something a little more decent, but that would be able to run straight off my Pioneer 8450MP HU. All the amp channels are being used and I dont want to install another one just for the rears.

Any ideas for a "Plug & Listen" solution?

Its not clear to me what your asking for, you want some 6x9's to run off an amp that already has all the channels taken ?

You need to run the speakers from some sort of amplifier, even if its just the head unit.

As of today Im running clarion rears from my HU, and they sound great. www.newministuff.com is the place to get them, and to get them installed if you need it (I did).

Hi,

Cheap solution - Pioneer 6 * 9's

Had some in my OldSkool Mini (1995'ish) and they sounded great running direct from...errr...can't remember what the HU was but it was only 1 or 2 steps up from Fisher-Price...Audioline or something?

The most similar product available now would be TSE6995. These should sound OK running off the HU. If you ever do get an amp for them they'd sound much better!

Why not try putting on a low-pass filter on the 6*9s? at least for the time being, I think pioneer HUs have this option

6*9s are a b tch to works with subs though, might be better of replacing them with co-axial

Are you from Australia by anychance?

Lightbulb

Just dropped by the local installer and he spent an hour trying to convince me that I need another amp. He proposes fitting a set of Pioneer 300W 6X9's in the rear which will run together with my splits of my four channel SRX4. He'll supply another Audison to run the Hertz sub woofer which he is removing from my ported enclosure and placing in a much smaller band pass box so that I get at least enough boot space for my laptop case.

What do you guys think?

And Bobba, no, I'm not from Aus, sitting down here in sunny South Africa.

The general idea sounds good, but you have to keep in mind of
1. What sort of power distribution for the two amps will be used? will there be a capacitor? at lease make sure there's a good fuse and cables
2. It might be wise to invest in a crossover, the heavy bass from the 6*9s could intefere with those coming from the subwoofer, how this is set up, depends on how you like your sounds.

Thumbs down

DONT BOTHER. If you put good speakers in there and try and use any volume
you will get boom around the 100Hz area which will make your sound worse.
Keep your money for future upgrades of front/sub/amp/HU.
