Talking Engine start button

OK, here's my next mod (yawn!)...

Engine starter button. Pointless, but VERY cool

I think to have it in the cigarette lighter socket is a good idea, but too far forward so you have to actually lean forward to press the button. Too much hassle and I'd probably end up never using it if I put it there, as well as the socket being out of action.

So, I've decided to mount it at the right of the electric mirror button, as in this thread:-

http://www.mini2.com/forum/showthrea...&threadid=5171 (post #10)

But I don't particularly like the style of the button in the pic in that thread (sorry Mr Cooper! ), and instead really like the big red/chrome "Engine Start" illuminated button that Mini-Design put in the lighter socket (pic also in the same thread, post #11).

So, as you've probably guessed, the question is:-

Is it possible to mount the big red illuminated button to the side of the electric mirror button, ie. not in the lighter socket?

Hope so!

Cheers guys,

Mark

Just been looking on the web a bit, and the one I like the best is the one from the S2000:-

It'd really fit in with the MINI interior! Does anyone know if you can buy the S2000 button on it's own, how much it is, and most importantly, if it could be fitted in the position I said by someone who knows what they're doing?

If not, it may have to be the richbrook illuminated button, but instead of illuminating green, putting an orange LED in there to match the other interior lights (http://www.richbrook.co.uk/pages/enginestartbutton.html).

Prefer the S2000 button though!!

The S2000 one is very similar to the normal lighter socket one (that mini-design do) actually (http://www.mini2.com/forum/attachmen...achmentid=1017), the S2000 one just seems more resessed and therefore more curvy/sleeker. Not much difference though. BTW, does anyone know what it says under "Engine Start" in the mini-design pic? Whatever it is, I wouldn't want it on! :P

You can buy the s2000 engine start button off ebay for £59.99, alternatively www.plmini.co.uk sell almost identical one for £47. Both come with fitting instructuions, however the plmini one will have specific guidelines for new mini fit.

The s2000 one Mark only reads Engine Start on it.

Cheers max!

So, the S2000 one is identical to the one in the pic I've attached? The "MINI" one is almost identical (ie. the one that m-d do) but flatter, and says something under "engine start" as well. I want the S2000 one, hope it'll fit where I want it!

Yaaay it's the exact one:-

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...category=40199

Does anyone know if it will be possible to install it just to the right of the electric mirror knob though? ie., is there enough depth etc. there for it to fit in?

These are the dimensions of the button, and as it says, 90mm of depth is required. So, the main question is: is there enough depth at the side of the mirror knob, for it to fit? Anyone know?

Yeah, good idea! In any case, as well as going to the bottom of the plastic section, you'd also have to go into the carpeted section a bit too, I just don't know what's under there!!

When you gonna do it?

PS. Which button u gonna get matey? The official S2000 one (ie. not the M-D one)?

Will give it a go this wknd. The s2000 I think as this will sit flusher with the surface and won't protrude as much as the m-d button.

Cool! Let me know how it goes will ya matey? The S2000 one is kind of recessed, and looks sleeker too - the M-D one just looks a bit boring and flatter. BTW, you can't fit the M-D one there anyway because it needs the cigarette lighter, I emailed them earlier :-) So if you want it there, it's either the S2000 one or the Richbrook I guess!

The lighter socket is just too far away. If it doesn't fit where we're thinking of though, perhaps it could be at the right of the dash, just above the right downtube? May be a bit obtrusive there though...

Fingers crossed!

Oh, have you checked the dimensions, and will the diameter of the s2000 fit that space???
