After Market Bucket Seats !!

Hi,

I have just purchased myself two Cobra Monaco bucket seats for my MC. I have the seats and the subframes ready for fitting but i am unsure on how and what to do at the minuite.

I currently have air bags in my seats which means i have an air bag wring harnes under the seat. If i disconnect the air bag and turn the ignition on the warning light will come on and stay on.

I was wondering if there was anyone else who has added aftermarket seats without air bags and how they overcome this problem.

Any advice would be helpfull,

Thanks

Magik

There are a few threads out there worth checking out. One by Randy has a write up of how to install sparco seats and use resistors to fool the car's computer into thinking your aftermarket ones have airbags.

The only problem is that as far as I know, the trick does not work. Didn't work for me, didn't work for anybody that emailed me, and people who say they did it successfully seem to not respond to emails, probably for fear of being quoted (after all toying with airbags is supposed to be illegal).

My current solution is going to be to swap seats everytime I go to the dealers and play dumb as to why the light is triggered, and let them reset it. After all lots of folks have the light show up for no good reason anyway !

PS: it's still worth it to me, the sparcos are heads and shoulders above the stock seats
PPS: It's all silly, considering JCW in england sells reclothed sparcos as factory JCW seats at the dealerships, so there has to be a factory "plug" to fool the circuit, but we cannot get it from the dealers here ! Let us know if you find anything !

my brother has a renault clio, ever since he had it, whenever he slid the seat about the airbag light came on cus the cable came undone.. they said that if it happened again, theyd just stick a block connector on. so just say you slid your seat forward one day and the light came on

Thanks for the info guys.

Yeh i know what you mean about the air bag light comming on. i had my mini go into the dealer not so long ago for an uopgradeed part to stop the airbag light comming on.

All they done was added a clip and cliped the airbag wire to the seat to pick up the slack and stop it from disconnecting.

QUESTION: What does the air bag light mean when it comes on?? Does this dissable the
system or does it just tell you something is wrong.
Will my air bags still ork if i am in a crash and the lights are on ?

I do work wih the mini every day and i know when i carry out on bourd computer checks with a cirrus machine, if i am checking for airbag systems i use a plug.

It is called a "Link Plug" and all it does is links the system to bypass the current airbag. Therefore the ECU and BC1 thinking there is an airbag there.

I didn't know if that would be safe the use constantly or at all on the road ??

Dunno about the plug. I wish there was one. I thought JCW used one with their seats but I contacted them and was told they actually enter a cod ein the ECU to disable the side airbags, something you can request in Europe but that is impossible to get done in lawsuit-loving America. So in the US, we're screwed apparently !

Hi, I found out about the plug that is used. Basically, all it is, is a resistor of a certian resistance that fits between the two plugs. It is called an " Air Bag Link Lead " If you use this i am sure ill get away with it.

Thanks

GDeschodt, did you try the ohm/watt I used for my setup? it worked for me.

I used Randy's DIY and that value was the most prevalent... 3.9 ohms... Last time we chatted you could not remember your value for sure, you said 2 or 2.2 if memory serves. What did you use ? I am willing to give this another shot after I reset the CPU at the dealers (faking an accidental disconnect)

PS: Any ODB software app out there that lets you reset codes and lights on the mini ?
