Question **Painting interior silver bits....HOW do I remove Speaker grill???

Painting all my silver interior bits to a charcoal grey...did the tweeters; they look awesome. I am looking to paint the downtubes today and clearcoat them as well..will post pics ASAP. Now, are the 6inch speaker grills permanently attached? or can I simply pop them off the door panel?

Any tips?

Feel free to email me at>>>> "ericjavi@aol.com"

The speaker grills are plastic rivited on. I've painted mine white along with down tubes, vent rings , dash vents, and pretty much anything that was the Light silver in the car. To remove the grills what i did was use a dremel tool and cut the heads off the plastic rivits. this allows the grill to be popped out painted then popped back in. Once back in use a little epoxy to set them in place.

Until we meet on the road

I am redoing the downtubes in a flat black so as to blend into the radio better. The rest of the pieces are a charcoal color. I wil have pics asap. The shifter ring, tweeter surround, cup-holder are all charcoal and look amazing. Brings out the chrome I have in the car more than with the silver paint.

Just replaced mine about 5 minutes ago, wanted anthracite instead of silver to match my Dynaudio tweeters that are in a non standard position. To elaborate on Mugami, the midrange grilles have 4 hollow pegs molded on to the back of them which go through 4 holes in the door cards. They are held on to the door cards by having their ends "squashed" a little, like when you stamp on an upright coke can. I got mine off the brutal way, a flat blade screwdriver to lever each "corner" off. It takes a little force but they come off no problem. Don't destroy the speaker though! I guess you could take the door card off and file the peg ends off from the rear side but I didn't bother. To put them back on, I just put a blob of bathroom silicone sealant in the 4 holes and put the grilles in. Easy peasy!

That looks very nice! I should have a few sucky pics up by tonight via my cell phone camera. The black downtubes look nice, however, they do darken the interior mood a bit. I may be swayed to try the white downtubes. Hmm

Looking forward to some more pictures. Thanks Mugami!

Nice work Bianchiboy! I will use your method to remove the speaker grills. I wasn't looking forward to removing the door panel.

I have not touched the dash panels, they remain silver. I am trying to minimize the silver so as to have the chrome rings, shifter, handbrake etc stand out a bit more against the darker charcoal interior. It really makes a difference. Before with the silver trim, you barely noticed the aftermarket chrome instrument rings etc.

Very nice. I was wondering though whether anyone knows if the downtubes are available in the aftermarket in a cast alloy? I like the silver but would prefer real metal to the paint.
