United-Kingdom Sony HU query

Hey all

Just ordered a Cooper for the g/f and we're looking at the ICE upgrade choices, have not ordered any boost or cd player purely because it appears to be a rip-off and i'd like to do it myself

Ok, so the g/f's old car has a Sony CDX670 HU and changer which we are carrying over. Ok, its a Sony but it's well specced and should look good in the car, its one of the Active Black units. I've looked at the MFSW thread and it isn't mentioned specifically. Without me taking it out of the old car now, does anyone know if it's compatible with the adapter from mikeythemini? i.e RMX4S compatible?

Next thing i'll be onto will be the speakers! Any suggestions to a decent 4 channel amp to power the speakers, that is also quite compact?? Won't be going down the sub route due to already limited boot space . Not sure what speakers i'm going to do yet

thanks!

p.s We have ordered the MFSW

Amps are a personal choice of course but I would recommend you give
consideration to the Genesis Profile range as they are slim enough to
go under the front seats. I don't know if they will all fit but I think the
four channel will. The Genesis amps have always come out very well
in any magazine tests. If you aren't going the seperate sub route you
can consider also going for Genesis 6x9 subs as a later upgrade to the
rear speakers. Not as good as a decent boxed sub though so check
out AutoAcoustics and Mikeythemini's sites for a compact box. I'll
give the Genesis 6x9's a guarded recommendation as they are o.k.
rather than brilliant. Others will disagree but I was pleasantly surprised
when I ran the standard speakers with an upgraded head unit, while
making my mind up on what new speakers to buy, so there is no rush
to do speaker upgrades. I eventually bought Focal Polyglas 6.5" for
the front.

thanks Steve

bit of a coincidence you should mention the Profile 4 since thats what i have in my car (running JL VR600Cs and sub). I could always try that in there and check the fit of that

Probably a bit more than i'm looking to pay though for this, was looking around the £200 mark for an amp.

The 6x9 subs sounds like an idea. I think what i'll do first is a decent of comps up front, if you want to sell your focals lets me know , and then see how it sounds

sound advice, thank you (no pun intended)

my mistake, it's a CDXM670 (i think there should be a hyphon in there somewhere, but thats basically it)

If it helps, it's about a 2001 model

one more thing. Am i right in thinking that i will also need the fitting kit for this model? facia adapter, IDO adapter etc...

cheers, doolie
