United-Kingdom BMW CD Changer with aftermarket HU

I have read in this forum that the BMW 6 CD changer is not compatible with any other headunit.

Is this a FACT or can some different head units work with a bit of fiddling??

Does anyone know who actually makes the CD Changer? Apline, sony etc?

I really want better sound quality but replacing both headunit and CD changer is a bit hard to bear right now as ive just paid for the S-Works kit!!!

Any donations to this cause would be greatly appreciated!

The factory changer won't work with aftermarket stereos
You could fit an mp3 head unit - then you won't need a changer

I know the feeling but everywhere I enquired said the same - the BMW unit won't work with any other head unit. I had to buy a BOOST unit off ebay to replace my WAVE.

Thumbs down Scap the BMW changer and install an MP3

Thats a real pain because i bought the car second hand and bartered extra to get the CD Changer. Now i dont like the sound of the head unit and im stuck with it.

there maybe a chance i can sell it back to him!?

As for the MP3 Unit, i presume you are talking about the Clarion one? How may CDs does it hold and is there options for quality? (bit rate).

What is the current price for the clarion? Does the front come off or does it mask itself?

Does the quality suffer when playing MP3s?

Many thanks for your replies.
