DIY DIY Aux Input for iPod --- connector Pin Part #'s anyone?

I would like to make my own aux input, as I know it can be done for a few $'s in parts, and
I'd rather not spend the money on the MINI kit.

I work for a major connector manufacturer (Tyco Electronics, formerly AMP), and have access samples of anything we make. I've also gotten free samples from Molex in the past.

Does anyone have the mfg/part number of the pins that go into the block connector on the back of the radio?

Thanks,
Jay Snyder

disclaimer: the following editorial views necessarily reflect the opinion of the this poster. I hope Dennis Kozlowski gets some justice in the end--a few years in jail should whittle down his ego a bit. Maybe a little shared time in the lockup with Martha Stewart would change his taste for $6000 shower curtains. A shame what he did to a fine old line company such as AMP. I love the Harrisburg area in PA, and it's close proximity to Hershey, PA---ummmmmmm...chocolate!

I'm not sure what you're asking about will help much for building a aux cable. The mating pins to the aux at the radio are just industry standard .025'' sq posts. Contact pins are never going to have a part no on them because of their small size. Wouldn't it be better to have the Amp connector p/n on the aux cable itself? Then you would have the right connector housing to lock into the radio side and also be able to find the aux connector pins as well. Can you do a cross reference from BMW part no to AMP, since the BMW part no might be easier to come by?

I won't even start on the whole Kozlowski discussion. I want to see him rot in prision, but it won't get me back the large portion of my 401k that I lost in Tyco Stock ( I'm more diverisivied now).

There probabaly isn't an AMP p/n for the cable assy. I'm sure they probably don't make it. The connector housing might have a part #.
If they're .025" sq. posts, they're probably AMP MTE pins -- I have plenty of those. I guess I need to just pull it (the MINI's center under-dash area) and look.

If I figure out what pins they are, I'll make a couple cable assys. and offer them up for sale (for a lot less t han the official cable).

I think I confused you with my previous answer. I meant to say that the pins on the back of the radio are square posts. The mating connector of the aux cable would be receptacle contacts (female). I found my record of the Amp connector number. It is 1-1355524-3 for the outer shell with the locking feature, and the inner connector is 6X2 position .100X.100 grid , whose part no. is 1355525-2.

Thumbs up

Excellent!!! Thanks for the part numbers.

I guess I meant the word "contacts", not pins. I look up these numbers tomorrow at work.

Thanks!
Jay
