United-Kingdom replacing head unit ..... warranty

hello, i am worried now, i have only got a basic wave radio cassette comming with my new MCS, i want to put in an aftermarket unit, will this completely invalidate my warranty and TLC package?? i think it sucks if it does.... and my dealer should have told me if it does...

No it won't affect it.

I have an aftermarket unit and the dealer has never questioned it.

phew! i was not impressed with the units that mini offered and how much they cost, especially after reading abot cds skipping etc, i decided to go MP3 to make use of my vast collection on my pc ( all backed up from my originals, due to lack of storage space for jewel cases).

this is good news! im looking at a unit from newministuff that will work with my 3 spoke MFSW
might even get my dealer to fit it for me on delivery day.

thanks for your input ollymale.

The warranty should only be invalidated if you end up with a problem with electrics/wiring that they can blame on the installation.

This of course will not happen if the unit is correctly installed.

Ken i was just going to say that too. but u beat me.

Any wiring related / electrical problems on the MINI that occur they will questionable under warranty if in any way the wiring has been fiddled with. but i would think just putting a head unit in wont affect it. its if u add new wires / tap into power supply / add interface units the MFSW (if u have one).

apparently for warranty you can change any parts that are "worn down under use", i.e. tires / brakes / exhaust etc. but not any thing else.

You might invalidate it if you replace the Wave/Boost HU plug with an aftermarket plug yourself by splicing wires. If however you use an interface harness (mikeythemini will supply one) which connects between the aftermarket HU and the Wave/Boost cable, then all is OK (i.e. there has been NO modification to the car).

P.S. Your MFSW controls will also work if you get the MFSW interface lead from mikeythemini.

I replaced my CD with a Kenwood CD/MP3/CD-R player no problems it's been in the BMW garage a couple of times since and no-one's questioned it.

The only 'bit' I had to change was the aerial adaptor - I needed one slightly smaller than the standard one.

My cars got a new radio, screen, navigation, tv, speakers & amps - when it goes in they love it at the dealers cos it gets cranked up in the workshop

I replaced the unit in my car for a Sony MP3 unit and it works a treat. Bought all the kit from mikeythemini. I would recommend that you save the money getting the dealer to fit it because my dealer said about 2hrs to fit it at a ridiculous amount per hour. I followed the instructions on mikeythemini's site (www.newministuff.co.uk) and it took me about 1/2 an hour!
