Alpine iPod interface w/ pics

I found some photos of the Alpine-iPod interface on a japanese website. If anyone can read it, please post the text, but it is my understanding that this unit gives you complete control over your ipod including playlists, a clear advantage over ice-link.

anyway, here is the website: http://www.watch.impress.co.jp/av/do...40528/alps.htm

and here are the pics:

So they announced the iPod interface January 8th. There are finally pictures 6 months later. Anyone got any idea when I'll be able to buy one of these and which head units it will work with?
I subscribed to the Alpine iPod email list and they haven't sent a single email, be nice if they sent one every 6 weeks just to let us know they're still working on it.

1. The cable from the iPod is white. The cable from the interface is black Odd, don't you think?

2. Where do the cables disappear to behind the cabinet?

3. Who's to say that the head unit isn't driving an mp3 CD changer?

Talking to an installer near me (Alpine specialist) they're targetting Aug/Sept for this to be available in the UK. fingers crossed - you're right, they are leaving it a bit fine aren't they?

I've been hearing about this off and on for a few months. Will this "adaptor unit" work only with a new HU, or will be also work w/ my factory HU? I'm trying to figure out the best way to hook up my iPod. Aux In, Ice-link, or this.

This will only work with the Alpine HU capable of Ai-Changer Control.

Pardon my ignorance, gmed, but what is an Ai-Changer? Are the MINI factory stereos capable of this? I'm very audio-terminology illiterate.

Thanks in advance for your patience w/ me.

the big question is if the new 05 CD head units that Alpine builds for MINI as the Boost HU with MP-3 ability will have the Ai-Changer Control needed for this.... or if it will only be in their after market head units and not the OEM unutes they build.... also will the 05 Boost units be retrofitable to older MINIs

I will wager some very large beers that you will not see the Alpine AiNet aftermarket protocol on Mini OEM head units in the foreseeable future, therefore this product has no relevance to Mini OEM head units.

Translated with Apple's Sherlock (kinda choppy but it's something):

* IPod and cooperation possible car audio

Control conversion adapter "KCA-420i" of external and iPod

With the booth of the Al pine, the car audio of iPod and the
same company having referred and displaying, the external control
conversion adapter "KCA-420i" in order to cooperate and. The
possibility that we plan the commercialization around the fall, as for
price 1 ten thousand Yen we become strongly.

IPod CD receiver "CDA-9831J" of the same company (while selling:
47,250 Yen) with with the adapter in order to connect, you connect the
music inside iPod can hear at inside of car of car as the external
entry of CDA-9831J. Furthermore, system iPod also being possible from
CDA-9831J to manage, not only search of tune, it can utilize also
shuffle function and the like. In addition, also it is possible to
display tune name and artist name in the display of CDA-9831J.

IPod can be controlled from CDA-9831J

Connecting terminal and KCA-420i which for cradle connection is
iPod lower part with the dedicated cable. KCA-420i has function, as a
conversion adapter converts to the signal of the dedicated bus
"Ai-NET" to which car audio of the same company has adopted the signal
from iPod, outputs to CDA-9831J. The control signal which is sent from
car audio passing the distance of opposite, is input into iPod.

The voice response from iPod is analog, but CDA-9831J revises the
sound quality of the compressed music file "MX (the media expander)"
to be on-board, "through the cassette adapter and the like, rather
than connecting iPod, becomes much sound good", (the same company)
with you say. Furthermore, KCA-420i has, power source supply function
it is possible also to charge iPod which is connected.
