This is my Empeg which I had installed as a second head unit. As in the empeg thread, I'd like to give a plug to Huet's in Hove, http://www.huetcaraudio.co.uk/ (tel +44 (0)1273 735700), who did an awesome job in fitting it. Some minor cutting of the inside of the pillars was required but the installation is beautifully subtle.

Hey, nice job! I dunno if I'd go with that out of a preference standpoint - don't like to have to reach down that far to reach my controls.

Yep, I know what you mean... the only alternative we could think of was to modify the glovebox and have it even further out of reach. Also, as the unit slides out and it's quite heavy it wouldn't have been safe for a passenger to be sat in front of it if (heaven forbid) the car crashed.

I had no problem installing mine in the main slot, I did all the work except for having an installation company run my wires for me. Now that I have the tuner, I'm going to have to find a spot for it. The one thing I LIKE about yours is that it 'fills up' the empty almost useless space down under the console there..

Cheers,
Me.

I must say I really like that model. I always have. It's so simple and classy looking, and really suits the MINI interior as it doesn't stand out too much.

I couldn't agree more
Yet another ebay bargain I found It's just a good job I had a fitting cage for it
It looks great in the daytime, but it's a shame at night it lights up white not orange

Alpine CDA-9835

I love this model because it matches up very well with the rest of the console. The majority of the low to mid-end Alpine models have more of a silver color plastic to them....while (i believe) the 9831 and above have the black plastic. This model also matches illumination color VERY well with the surrounding amber lights. As far as the 2004 models go, all of them are able to change their lights to amber (minus the 4 big buttons), and only the 9833 and up give you the option of changing the 4 big ones to whatever you want. So...overall, this is a great unit which blends in very nicely with the rest of the dash.
(sorry about the poor quality of the darker shots.....i just wanted to display the similarities in the colors)

I need your help, I've just had a 05 mini cooper (1 day old) and I chose to have the standard fit radio/cassette, on the basis that the dealer said my Sony MP3/CD player would fit. Now that its here I'm not sure if it will !! The gap looks bigger than the Sony head unit. Is it?? Will it fit or would I need a back plate to take the space up?
Please help I'm a desperate woman who can't live listening to the radio for much longer.

Thanks for that, I went to Halfords and they have ordered them in for me and whilst I was there I brought a new JVC MP3/CD/Tuner, it was half price and one of their nice men are going to fit the lot for me.

Order them?
I could of had them with you for Tuesday. £23.50 for the 3 items
This wouldn't be the half price offer from the paper that isn't half price would it?
They did the same scam last year with kenwood prices

I have two of the items needed but one was out of stock, so they are ordering it me. The unit should have been £199.99 and we got it for £99.99, don't know if this is the one in the paper as I don't read them that often. Hubby was pleased with it, it was a toss up between that one and the Sony one, but I didn't like that one, it was the wrong colour silver, the JVC unit was more chromey, so would match the other chrome better.

Sorry I didn't see your post until we got back and by then it was too late.
Hubby and I didn't want to start bodging up my new mini by attempting to fit it ourselves, so we'll leave it to someone who does this all the time and Halfords are providing us with a mobile audio technician for free.
