Question Should my vents always blow?

I've noticed that the air vents in my '04 Cooper blow air even when the fan speed is set to 0 (there doesn't seem to much of a difference between the air flow when set to 0 and when set to 1).

Is this right? Do I really have to close all the vent to stop any air blowing into the car?

Your vents will allow air flow caused by the movement of the car, to avoid you getting stuffy and suffocated.
You could stop driving, then the air should not "blow"
You could adjust the air flow direction to the screen or feet, where you won't notice it so much.
You could press the "recirc" button to shut the outside air intakes, but then you will get stale air in the car after a while.

I'd rather get wind burn than stop driving.

Thanks for you help.

That's exactly what it should do.

More cars are doing this. It's a safety feature. Reduces the possibility of CO poisoning. And if you've noticed there's usually air blowing on the windscreen as well. Also a safety feature. If something should go wrong with the fan or controls the default will always allow you to get fresh air and allow you to defrost/defog the window. Not doing so could make driving a bit of a challenge.

All you need to do is turn the dial to blow onto the windscreen, and all the air will be diverted away from you.

Either that or at the floor.
I find it quite nice to have it directed half at the feet and half at the face setting with the blowers angled towards the doors

Fresh air in the car but not blowing directly at your face

If you turn the fan switch to off, you are just turning the fan off. Air is still flowing over the heater matrix as you are driving, so will come out hot.

This is interesting. I was given a 3 series courtesy car a couple of weeks ago and no air came through the vents when the fan was switched off.

I'm pretty sure this was the case for my previous car too.

Doesn't really bother me because I usually have the fan set to 1. Just wanted to make sure my car was working properly.

I had a focus before the MINI and all though the amount of air that got through was less, it still got through even if the fans were turned off

turning the fans off on the dash just stops the fans. if u want to stop the air flow all together, turn the centre of the 4 air ducts on the dash.
