Tomtom Go - anyone got one yet?

I've been reading about the new Tomtom Go and I'm seriously tempted. Anyone got one yet? If so pics/feedback/review would be greatly appreciated

If you don't have a clue what i'm talking about take a look here and here

i believe u get the same maps as for tom tom 3 PDA version. that gives you UK and some European main roads.

I looks nice, but seems a bit pricey, compared with the cost of TomTom and a Pocket PC. Is is compatible with the GPRS updates that TomTom 3 is? For me that's the reason I upgraded to TomTom 3 - for the live traffic feeds.

it allows uploading of POI databases via USB and PC. dont beleive it does live traffic as the unit doesnt have blue tooth.

POI databases will be handy - I've got speed cameras on mine, although to be honest considering the cost (about £8 per year) I hardly expect them to be up to date

Anyone know of any good POI databases

Only problem with live traffic is the call costs.

should have also said that the link above has a free "speed camera database POI" and push pins for MS Autoroute too, invaluable

Yeah the Go box uses tomtom 3 maps i think.

The PDA route is interesting, but i wouldn't use it for anything else, so it doesn't really make financial sense to me. I guess if you are going to use the PDA for other things its a better purchase.

The million dollar question is "will the tomtom go help me navigate the stelvio route?"

it wont help a lot

but it will help with the major roads in europe. if u email me the revised stevlio file, i will see how much of the coverage i can find in the European maps. ive bought mine mainly for the UK navigation side of things.

i thought i wouldnt use the IPAQ for other stuff, but ive filled it up with all sorts of stuff. like PDA DOOM for starters.

however, you can purchase TOM TOM European maps update for £180 ish which gives much more detailed content for europe. However the bad news for tom tom go units is the 128 SD card wont hold the UK and european major road and the full europe maps, so its gonna require an upgrade of a bigger SD card, probably at least a gb of memory as they come on 8 cds!!!!

i dont think i will be upgrading to full european maps just yet?

I'm wondering about getting the European TOMTOM maps - but I may also try and borrow an old laptop so I can transfer the maps as we go around europe
It should also be usefull for storing the photos from my Digital SLR

The other alternitive would be a couple of IBM microdrives - one for the camera, one for the PAD, should be able to hold everything.

As for UK camera databases, I'm currently using POIwarner in association with the pocketgpsworld camera database - works fine for me.

Mark, is your tomtom connected to a pda?

512Mb SD Cards can be snapped up for as little as £60. Not seen any 1Gb cards yet?

HP Jornada PDA using CF for storage - 512MB cost £75 in the shops, should be able to get it cheaper online. IBM Microdrives also fit - need to find out how much a 2Gb costs.
