France TomTom Go and 05 Rod Antenna

Hello people,

Just to make sure, it is stated on the mini.com website that:
"The new rod antenna now has satellite navigation and telephone preparation capabilities.
The shark fin antenna previously required for navigation is no longer neccessary".
That should mean if I wanted to have a external antenna (should I have athermic windows) I wouldn't need to purchase one, and could use the rod antenna?
Anybody purchased the TomTom Go Maps of Europe? Any good? what SD card size do u use for that?
Cheers

The assumptions are though: that Mini have actually installed the wiring from the Sat Nav receiver, and that it's gonna be compatible with the TomTom Go. Bit of a risk.

I believe the heated windscreen might be athermic (which is why I didn't order it ) but the standard screen isn't (even on the 05 model).

As for TomTom Go, it's a neat solution, but dearer than getting a PDA with a separate GPS mouse and software. With a GPS mouse, you've got more flexibility over where you site it all (especially with Bluetooth). It's not that hard to set up a PDA with TomTom. Plus you can then run software like CheckPOInt that notifies you about speed cameras, not that I'd condone speeding of course <cough>.

File sizes, depends on how much of Europe you need at any one time but the whole of the UK is around 91Mb. Bits of bigger countries like France can be loaded in 16, 32 or 64Mb lumps, or the whole country. So basically, get the biggest card you can afford and seems like good value! You could load different maps onto different cards as well.

Addman.

Sorry mate,
Just remembered that post I posted... oooopppssss.
I have purchased th TomTom Go product, and it is really the dogs dangling bits.
I was really tempted to use the GPS ready antenna from the rod, as it will be better reception, as it seems it loses the signal sometimes.
Does it have the mobile phone preparation too??

CHeers

Daniel
