Steering wheel lock recommendations

Hi everyone,

Can anyone recommend a steering wheel lock. I have tried a few and had difficulty getting them on as the center of the steering wheel gets in the way. I have tried wheel locks that are supposed to be suitable for cars with airbags, but they don't fit either.

I would be greatful if anyone could shed some light on this matter.

Thankyou

Other than as a visual deterrant, these are useless. A flashing red light would be a bit better.

Since the MINI has an immobilizer, that shuts down the fuel pump, ignition spark, and starter motor, unless a digital signal is received by the key (I think), then why do you need this?

I was watching a program where they showed how easy it is to get one off the wheel. The steering wheel lock is real tough. Your wheel isn't. They cut a snip out of the wheel in one place with some real small cutters, and slip it off - while it's locked. Took about 4 seconds.

For that reason, I'm not getting one. A lock that goes between the brake pedal and shifter is a lot tougher to bypass, if you really want to do something like this every time you park it.

Okay, I've never seen one of those before. That full wheel cover certainly would stop someone from cutting the wheel!

How difficult is that thing to put on and off all the time?

I use the same one as you smiffy.

noahe, it only takes a few seconds to fit it to the steering wheel. It gives me added peace of mind.

I use the full wheel covering Disklok on three of my cars. Very bulky but made well and like the half wheel one shown above lasts the full five mins attack time. (They are allowed to use hammers, chisels, drills etc.) Available in interior matching silver @ £79.99.I hope to put the thieves off before they rip my dash apart trying to defeat the immobilizer!

I read somewhere that 80% of stolen cars are simply towed away. Dont know how true that is.

Check out www.disklokuk.co.uk for a full cover steering wheel lock. It's the best on the market as the steering wheel can't be cut and it survived the Thatcham Cat3 5 minute attack.

The disklok comes in silver to match your MINI and a silver printed protective cover is also available. It's expensive though @ £60-£80

Security devices such as these are more of a deterrent - car thieves are more likely to move to the next unprotected car. As I don't drive my MINI much, I've got one fitted on my MINI which is parked on the drive and I keep the keys separate from the MINI keys.

I hope you guys keep those locks tucked away in the boot when you are moving. If one of those shot forward at 70mph it could smash your head off your shoulders.

It's a MINI hearse!

Sorry smiffy, clarification:

As I don't drive my MINI that much, it spends most of its time sitting looking very pretty on my driveway. It's common for burglars who break into a house to also steal the householders car by finding the keys. Therefore leaving the disklok key attached to the MINI keys would be self defeating - the thieves would therefore have the keys for the supposed security device.

Therefore I keep the disklok key hidden and separate from the MINI key - so if they find them they can get into the car but not nick it!

Confused? Me too! I sometimes forget where I put the disklok keys at times!
