Question Electric Power Windows Closing Automatically

According to my owner's manual and the online version of the owner's manual, my power windows are supposed to close automatically when I press the toggle up once. My windows do open automatically like they are supposed to, but they don't close automatically. Do yours? Are they supposed to or not? I'm a little confused. Have any thoughts?

The passenger's window never closes automatically as a safety precaution. The drivers window does close automatically, if the engine is running, if its not then you have to hold it down.

So I take it yours works then? I know it only is supposed to work on the driver side with the engine running - but it doesn't work at all on mine no matter what.

Hmmmm... weird. Dunno why that should be. That would really ****** me off. Do you just tap it up quickly? Silly question really, you've probably tried everything. I'm guessing your dealers won't be amazingly useful, judging by what I've heard of those out in the US.

Yes, that would be accurate. I asked my dealer about it this past week and they said the window doesn't have an autoclose feature. Hmm, now that didn't sound right so I found it in the manual. I'll have to take it back and ask them about it, however I'm not expecting they will know how to fix that.

Unhappy

My Canadian Cooper doesn't have the auto-close feature either and I suspect this feature is not available in North America for safety reasons. I guess North Americans are more prone to getting caught in windows....

Somewhere else in this forum, once upon a time, i read that the auto-close feature is programmable and that in theory it could be set for both windows at once - the reason its programmable, apparently, is so that it just needs different software settings for LHD and RHD.

Mine works by the way and I find it very useful...

This option should be programmable by the dealer.

Except that our manual says it does do it... I'll ask the dealer about it again and see if they can make it work.

Actually Ken weren't you the second "S" delivered? Just kidding. How's the S going? I agree the windows are slow and putting them up while driving is a distraction - well - in reality it is more that I am lazy and just really want it to autoclose. :-)

Auto Up

Mine doesnt do it either. I read that in the manual as well but chalked it up to a US removed thing because someone got their fingers stuck or something. Would be nice to have, when pulling AWAY from a toll, just the same as when pulling up to one!

Yeah, it's a distraction, but I figured out how the legal types can get around that...make it so it requires two hands to operate...then one of your hands can't get caught in the window!

Yes I also think this would be correct. Does any body in the know confirm this. Also don't the USA BMW have auto close?

My first post! (useful as well)

U.S. Mini's don't have the auto up feature, why I don't know. BMW's do have them, though they also have anti-trap strips so that the window will stop if something is in the way.
