Aux Imput Question

Quick question. Does the aux port on the Mini lose power when you turn the car off. I have a Delphi Roady in my current car. It's hooked up wirelessly with an FM modulator. The modulator plugs into my power outlet, and turns on and off automatically when I start/stop my car. This is nice because it makes the XM feel more "built in." When I get my Mini, I want to hook the roady up to the aux port, because the fm modulator isn't that great sounding. So for the people who have done this, how is it? Does the roady/skyfi shut on/off automatically with you car? Do you have any suggestions for hooking it up to the Mini? I did a search for roady, and that answered a few of my questions, but I'm curious to find out how this works. Also, does anyone have the iPod hook-up in the glove box? That's another thing I'm interested in...I have an iPod already so i'd be stupid not to get it.

Thanks, Kyle

-Kyle

The Aux port doesn't provide any power. So it can't 'shut off' its just an input. If the radio is on, you can use it (the radio is able to be switched on when the car isn't on, but that's a different discussion).

Most people who want XM use the XM-direct method. It plugs into the cd changer-prewiring, and uses the built in satelite capabilities of the radio. No clunky extra boxes, nothing to worry about. You have a smaller display, and its a shade more expensive then a standalone option like the roady, but its a way better install, esentially all the pieces are hidden. There's been several installs written up in the interior+ice forum, and naturually as its a better option then roady, there's not much on a roady as you've found.

A few people have tested the official IPOD kit, but its barely made it to dealers, so its rare at the moment. Most people use one of the unofficial ones, such as the denison ice-link, which if you search for, you can find info about, its available now, and offers some features the official one doesnt, especially the newest model of icelink, does the same thing though, but you can run into issues using both it and the XM direct.

Magic 8-ball was correct. All be in awe of Magic 8 ball.
