Retro-fitting "Speed" display in OBC screen?

Ever since driving a later model ('03? '04?) Mini, and seeing that the OBC would display your 'current' speed in the Tach, I wanted that on mine. Just because..

I never bothered with it because I figured that the Tachometer part # had changed because the display had been updated (to include the "Speed" logo). However, for the first time today I played with the little test menus, and while running the display test, I noticed that my Tach *DOES* have the "Speed" label in the display - and since the computer can turn it on means that it's accessible via the software... So before I write MiniUSA and bug them, I was curious if anyone else had any additional info that I could use in my argument?

Cheers!
Me.

Bump!

Where did you find the link? I've done a search and couldn't find it (honestly, I got tired after page 2 of the search results )

Jeez guys, sorry. I don't have it anymore. I'll look around, see if I have it bookmarked. (I may. I have more bookmarks than books!)

The short of what I discovered was that for some reason, the OBC1 can't be 'reprogrammed' for this feature, you have to get the OBC2. I also spoke with my service manager, and he backed me up on that one.

Now, the only thing I'm confused about is that it *HAS* the capability to light up the "Speed" label in the LCD! (It does so when in that test mode!). Since it already has the capability to display numbers, and it knows the current speed (also in the test mode), then.. I don't get what the deal is, but..

IMHO, I WOULD get the 'new' module for my car, however, the new module does NOT do a few things that the old one does. One rfeature I LIKE is when my wipers are on, and I turn off the key, they'll park in the DOWN position. With the 'new' computer, they stop right when you take the key out. Plplplpt.

Cheers.

thanks a lot Foxtrotxray!

I've read the same thing 2-3 times on different forums, and I thought you had a solution!

Thanks again!

I so wish I did. There are other functions that are available as well, like TWO trip-o-meters. I'm going to write MiniUSA early next year (once my re-coloring of the dash is done) and see what they say about the ''missing'' features. If I hear anything concrete, I'll post it.
