Official iPod connector available.

As per the title:

MINI iPod Interface for R50, R52, R53

We're pleased to announce the release of the MINI ipod connector for the MINI Hatch and Convertible!

The iPod connector allows an Apple iPod or iPod mini to be connected to the car's audio system using a cable in the glovebox. The tracks stored on the iPod are played via the vehicle's audio system with the iPod being controlled using the radio and multifunction steering wheel. An additional advantage of this system is that the iPod's battery is charged whilst the iPod is in use via the vehicle's electrical system.

The iPod interface supports the following functions:

Next / previous track
Skip tracks in steps of 10 (not in RND and RPT mode)
Fast forward / reverse (in RND and RPT mode only)
Random play
Scan SC
Playback 5 special play lists
Playback all tracks

Please note that the following are not supported by the interface:
Display information on artist and track
Track search by artist, song name, album or genre

Technical Information
The following versions are compatible with the interface:

iPod (G3, G4) with docking connector from software version 2.2 onwards
iPod mini from software version 1.1 onwards
The iPod connector can only be fitted with the following options:

SA 657 Boost Radio
Please note that the iPod can be fitted to vehicles with CD changers (672). However, the CD player must be disconnected and can therefore no longer be used, even when the iPod is not connected

If you need any more info, just ask...

Can it be used with the HK System and will it be able to function using the head set only and not the special multifunction steering wheel?

Is it available now?

Asked the parts dept at my local dealer about this just last week. Never even heard of an iPod, let alone a connector!

The main difference is the Official one does not display track names on the stereo & turns off the ipod display
the dension does not display track names on the stereo but does show them on the ipod
The dension is also available with an active charging cradle

i've been in touch with MINI Customer Service and they said the following:

We can confirm that we have an Ipod Connector available, the price and part
number is stated below.

Part Number 65.41.0.395.293
Price £125.00

We would advise you to contact the Parts Department situated in your local
dealership in order for them to process a technical enquiry to ensure
compatibility with your specific MINI.

Unhappy

Just spoke to a Mini dealer and they said it does not work with Harman Kardon, but they "should" release one that does in the "future"..

Are you sure about this, as my Mini Dealer will be fitting this for me, when the acr arrives, and I have specified Harmon Kardon, I don't see why it won't work as it just plugs in the back of the Boost Head Unit, the same place that a CD Changer would connect. I'm pretty certain you can use a CD Changer with the HK.

Anybody else got any thoughts on this, I'll be bloody annoyed if it won't work.

Cheers in advance.

Question

Well it continues.. I have since been to another dealer who have said there is no reason why it shouldn't work with H/K.

I decided to give BMW Aftersales a ring this morning and this guy, who made it clear he shouldn't be talking to "members of the public" quickly said it wouldn't work with H/K..

So I thought let's see what Mini Customer Services have to say so I rung them up and a very helpful woman is contacting the head of parts to find out the truth.. Hopefully i'll have the answer this afternoon.
