No, simple is often the best, but the lighting for the speedo I believe comes from behind the dial faces and shine turn the speed markers on the dial face.

Now the people who look after car rego ( tax) over there might demand that the MPH are scaled at a set rate e.g. a minor marker for every 5 mph and major market at every 10 mph. This means just lining up the KM/h hour markers on a new sick over dial face may not give the right spacing in MPH.

Also we can’t just use a second hand mph dial face as some of the icons (turn signal, high beam) are in different places. But if a fully custom one were made then all would be good but the gov might also require the total distance travel to be mile not KM.

I really don’t know the full requirement and how tough they are over there, but I can tell you our people require the speedo to be fully changed over, ie no stickers are allowed to be used and they don’t care how hard this is to do.

Snoopy

Ps you are right about the MINI does not care if you have KM/H or MPH, as the MINI is based on the metric system it must convert it to MPH on the fly as it store evey thing in KM.

I can't help but think it might have been a lot easier to sell your MINI in Australia and buy another over here, what with all the trouble/cost of importing it and the can of worms that has been opened with the speedo/kph mph/rev counter issue.

I hope there is a way to sort it out though.

Oh, Snoopy, there's no way of speccing a new car with a rev counter where the speedo would otherwise be (centre of dash) in the UK, BTW.

Ireland Male
Ireland speedeo change

ok who told you that the speedo cant be changed in BMW
thats rubbish
you can order a new speedo MPH and rev counter
have them coded and installed for about 350-400 euro
as your car is from AUZ
the rev counter and speedo are swapped so even trying to change the dial face
from an old sat nav wont work
i have just ordered my new speedo KMH because we gone all metric here in Ireland

That's upsetting! Hope that never happens over here.

It is half true, yes it can be done, but the coding information needs to be created and then tested by BMW before they release it to the dealers.

The MPH to KM/h you guys in Ireland have under gone is a approved and tested retro fit, therefore it is just a recode using one of the retro fit options precoded into the dealers DIS.

Cant BMW fit a MPH dial and program the NEW IKE for your car?

Or is it more in depth than that?
