Interior Chrome

Hi all,

Done a search through the forums as im considering putting the chrome interior bits in my car to compliment the anthracite dash. Looked on a fair few of the dedicated mini web sites and prices are a lot steeper than that of ebay for instance. Are the products on ebay completely naff? Anyone with any buying experience of a set off ebay? If not where did you get it from, looking for the cheapest price but don't want to skimp on the finish of the quality. Is a BMW retrofit ridiculously expensive? Not wanting to OD on chrome just add a subtle amount to lift the interior.

it is not available as a retrofit 'kit' so all the items are priced seperatly....and they are not that expensive, apart from the chrome rev counter, which is replaced as a complete unit.....

pop along to your dealer and ask the question

You can purchase individual chrome replacements from bmw. These are the items that would be fitted as standard from the factory if you tick the chrome interior box. These items are chromed plastic but work out much cheaper than getting bezels that fit over the existing plastic trim.

The finish between the OEM bmw replacements and aftermarket chromed metal bezels is exactly the same. Unfortunately BMW will only sell complete replacement tachs, so for a chromed finish, you have to go aftermarket.

My set of BMW + aftermarket tach match perfectly.

To save multiple p&p's goto www.newministuff.com and order a set off mikeythemini - I am sure he keeps sets in stock so you wont have one item arriving at your dealer everyday for two weeks like I did !

The sets that mike supplies will be genuine bmw parts. All except the rev counter bezel which is aftermarket. For some reason bmw will only supply this part with a whole new rev counter and works out at ~£170 if I remember right.

The set like that should match up to the quality of oem bmw parts, if you buy that set make sure it is on cc card, and ask the seller some questions about what material they are made out of before they are chromed. I would also find out the location as "over the rainbow" isnt a great description.

Cheers mini_blake, i'll get some questions going to that seller. May well opt to just get Mikey to do it to be honest. Im going to be taking my new mini up there to get my ipod hooked up and a couple of other things that i have planned as well, so may as well try and tie it all in. Saves the hassle as my Finals are getting ever closer so i think it will quickly become a post uni, day of celebratory mods!
