Sat Nav screen specs (empirical) Since I've been unable to find a spec for the MINI factory-installed Sat Nav display, I took a look at the screen with a magnifying lens last night to try to get a better idea of its capabilities. From what I could see, I think the Nav uses composite video, just like the Rear-view Camera Kit does. (So if you want a digital display or VGA, you'll need to use an aftermarket screen like the Lilliput.) I looked closely at the square displayed in the upper right corner with the letters "GPS" and a satellite symbol, then extrapolated the numbers. The square seems to be close to 36 pixels on a side, about a half-inch of screen space. The visible screen is 5 3/4 inches by 3 1/4 inches (6.6 inches diagonally), so the pixel map the Nav system uses is something less than 414 x 234, probably 400x225 or 384x216. | The Japanese Nav System uses a startup graphic that is 408x240 pixels, according to a post in another thread. So that might be the resolution of the screen. (That's a 17:10 ratio.) I haven't tried looking on the map disc to see what sort of image files might be on there. If there are any, that would provide a further clue to the screen specs. If I find anything, I'll update this thread. |

| MINI Sat Nav Screen Specs! Thanks to chris.lamb I was able to find the specs by Googling the model # he provided. Sharp LQ065T9BR51U Transmissive / Reflective Widescreen TFT 16 cm (6.5 in) diagonal, 400 x 240 x RGB (96,000 pixels) Dot Pitch 0.359 mm x 0.331 mm, Active area 143.4 mm x 79.3 mm TFT-specific analog RGB -- NTSC & PAL* Built-in 1CCFT Backlight, Luminance 220 cs/m2 Max Draw 4.92 mW 155.0 mm w x 89.2 mm h x 12.5 mm d, 205g * Note from Sharp's site: 'MBK-PAL system is adopted as PAL. The LCD panel has 240 scanning lines, and displays a picture of 274 virtual scanning lines.' The input through the video control module is composite, but the connection between the Nav/OBC and the screen is apparently analog RGB. |
