Question Changing head unit for alpine/dropping ipod adapter advice...?

Hi,

I know this is a frequently discussed topic and i've done a search, but i'm having trouble getting the whole picture...any advice would be appreciated.

Heres the story...got an MCS on order...no MFSW. Fancied the ipod adapter, got it on order, to go with the Boost CD player. Having read quite a few posts it seems that the £200 (inc fitting) of just the ipod adapter seems quite expensive for what is a connection with quite limited capabilities. Having done a bit of searching i've found an alpine CDA-9847R - CD/MP3 PLAYER with iPOD adaptor for £205...now seeing as the alpine boasts good ipod controls i'm wondering...

a) how easy would it be for me to change the head unit? (i'm not a complete wiring freak so i would prefer something thats pretty hassle free)
b) would i need a dash adapter?
c) should i just supply it to my dealer and see what he reckons his costs would be
d) should i just roll into somewhere like halfords etc and get them to do it...(can they be trusted)
e) assuming its a dealer option i assume that i have a bit of time to drop it from the equation?

many thanks for any advice/info.

Cheers Widgey
I think the ipod adaptor is fitted at the dealer so yes - drop it
To fit the alpine you will need 3 parts - all in the fitting kit at www.newministuff.com
It is pretty easy to do - or have a nice drive to see me & get some other goodies

i think i'll give you a bell in the morning to just go over things and then i'll probably give the dealer a bell to give him the news...

Mike was most helpful, he even has DIY guides on his site....great stuff.

Couldn't get the boost removed from my spec but just losing the ipod adapter pays for the alpine+alpine adapter...guess its to ebay when it arrives to scrape back some of the rest.

I wish i'd known about it before hand...the ipod adapter + CD upgrade is £275 all in!
