There has been a lot of people discovering that Japan has some cool Mini stuff not found anywhere else... Anyways, I thought you all might like to see what Japanese OEM Navigation looks like... Mine is the newest 2005 version...
The main display unit... Touch panel control.
Destination and search options... Sorry, Japanese only!
You can watch TV, DVD and other types of media from an SD card.
Here is the actual unit stored in the glove box... I have the iPod Interface in there too...
Finally, the ETC (Electronic Toll Collection) unit. A must for driving on the highway in Japan! It links to the Navigation unit and tells you how much a trip will cost as you program the destination.
The iPod link is the OEM iPod adaptor from BMW and MINI... You can get it at most MINI dealers around the globe... (At least I assume you can)
Anyways, it works kinda like a CD changer... You make 5 playlists in iTunes, upload them to the iPod and then the adaptor reads those playlists from the iPod as if they were CDs in a changer... It's simple, but effective... (No track or artist information on screen though...)
The screen on mine doesn't fold away... It only goes up and down... Do you want pics of the positions?
Maybe you mean the non OEM Strada unit? It does have a fold away screen and is very slick... It folds away into the 2 DIN unit... I think it's HDD (Hard Disc) Navi too... The OEM MINI unit is DVD based, but maps can be stored to SD card as well...
I'm glad you enjoyed yourself in Tokyo! Did you make it to MINI Roppongi? It's a nice dealership.
Anyways, I did get hit with a little of the typhoon... Mostly just wind... Didn't even know we had an earthquake. It was probably far away from me... I live pretty much in the center of Japan near Japan's biggest lake, Lake Biwa...
nah...unfortunately, I didn't make it to Rappongi...
only had three days there, and I visited stacks of places...was supposed to go to rappongi, but the night I was going to go was the typhoon...and the trains on that line were down....
I'm also a japanese car fan....I was wondering how hard it was to get out to some of the parts stores and garages in Tokyo....? I was thinking of getting an R32 Skyline GTSt, but got the mini instead (big difference in price!!!)....
