Alpine install and antenna

Recently upgraded to the 9853 with the Ipod adapter. Ever since this my FM reception has been awful and AM non-existant.

I went back to the place where I got the work done and they said the car my need a booster...they tried one and nothing.

Then they mentioned that I need an outside antenna. I don't think this is right.

Anyone else had any problems with an Alpine and the antenna? Anyway around it?

Thanks.

The above link will take you to a load of reviews on the 9851. One of them really dumps on the am reception. I think the 9851 has the same radio specs as your 53.

What did he mean by outside antenna? I've heard people complain about radio reception in the Mini and trying different antennas did not improve it.

You must make sure the ant remote is wired up as the Mini has an antena amplifier built in, the blue on the alpine must be connected to the blue on the harness adaptor (white on the Mini)

Charlie:

PLEASE keep us posted as to whether Mikey's solution improves reception...it might get me off the dime to buy an Alpine hu. You might post this query on www.northamericanmotoring.com too. Mikey's tip sounds like there might have been an oversight by an installer who doesn't know Minis all that well. After all, here in the US, there just arent' that many of us.
