Navigation antenna and XM radio

Hello all!!!

I know XM radio requires an additional antenna that looks very similar to the Navigation antenna I'm getting on my S. Can I run XM radio off of that antenna or do I need to add another antenna? Can I put the XM radio antenna on the inside of the car somewhere to hide it or does it have to be outside of the car. I'd hate to have 2 antennas outside.

Thanks,
Phil

I would bet that that navigation antenna would not work.
I use my XM radio with the antenna inside. I have used both the Sony antenna and a Terk low-profile sitting on the package shelf. I think the Sony performs marginally better. This setup is fine unless I'm downtown or on a heavily wooded road. Sure beats having it on the outside -- besides there's hardly room on the roof for another antenna if you have the sunroof.

Isn't XM great?!?!?!

You can not use the Nav antenna for XM or Sirius radio. They may look similar, but they are totally different birds.

You can put the antenna inside, but you risk lowering the ability to receive a signal. I have my "shark-fin" antenna inside my Explorer on the dash, and sometimes loose signal if I'm driving in a North East direction. I also use the radio, a Sony PNP, indoors about 20 feed from a window, top floor of where I work, and drop signal for about 3 seconds every few minutes. Annoying, but better than not having XM at all.

Make that three antennas outside...Sat Radio, Sat Nav and (boring) OTA radio

IB/IB Cooper, Black Leather, every option except CVT, (plus bonnet stripes, rally lights, aero rear spoiler and floor mats).
