England Rattle from rear windows

Both of my rear windows on my 05 Cooper convertible keep rattling and I have given my mini to the dealer twice now and they still rattle. They make a rattling noise even if you hold the rear window whilst driving. The only way to stop the rattle is to lower the windows a few cm's. Has anyone had the same problem, my car is going back to the dealers again on Monday. My front passenger A post trim also rattles when you accelerate has anyone had this problem.

Many thanks for any replies

Paul

A post trim could just be loose, might need a bit of a thump to get it in place.

The rattling rear windows I am sure I have seen this reported on here before, and the dealer sorted it out.

I recently notice the rear window rattle on my wife's MCc. Have'nt had a chance to see what's causing it, but it is on our list for the next visit with MINI.

My rear drivers side window creaks and my rear passenger side window rattles. Been to dealer for them to sort out and they still rattle after about 6 attempts to fix. Also took it in as drivers seat had jammed asked for dash rattles to be looked at, when I got car back dash top was not fitted correctly as there was a quarter inch gap one side left of the speedo. It is accepted as it is built in an old Rover/British Leyland factory, the build quality is sub standard for the money you pay. The dealers are not very good at rectifying "niggles" so live with it , get a different car or try and fix the rattles etc yourself.

How are you getting on with the MINI Griffer? Are you still in love with it, or grit your teeth when driving?

Read with interest your roof saga, how has the replacement roof worn?

More importantly, would you buy another MINI convertible?

My convertible roof is almost a year old (in June) and is still within the realms of acceptability, but my drivers rear window rattles at times.

It can change day to day. With the roof down, heated seats on, it's the best car ever. Hood up, raining, driving to dealers (again- must be about 20 times now, maybe more!) listening to the knocks, rattles and creaks, it's the worst car in the world. Just depends in what mood I'm in. It's going in in a week to have a new dash top fitted as the dealers buggered the old one fitted padding under it as it creaks. The roof is kind of OK now (third roof) but I always drive with foam pads in to stop the wear coming back. I had viper stripes fitted as compensation for all the trouble I've had but the contractor made a complete hash of it and had to do the whole lot again. Maybe I'm just lucky!!!!!!!!!!!

Pleased with myself as I fixed a creak, a rattle and a bang just with 2 bits of sticky backed Velcro (soft side, buy it from a roll at DIY centres) I fixed 2 squares to the rear passenger window frames where they touch the hood frame and hey presto - SILENCE!

Just had mine back to the dealers for the 19th (!) time since I got it on June 10th last year. 3rd roof, 4th set of rearside windows and lots of rattles and squeeks. My right rear window squeeked since the mounting of the last roof. The middleconsole (English word? the thingie where the radio is in :-) ) rattled and you heard a lot of windnoise on the right side.

"Sorry, we cannot alter anything anymore. A convertible always makes more noise..." Yeah, duhu! So I asked the dealer to put in writing that they could not help me anymore, because then I would go to BMW Netherlands. Suddenly they really wanted my car in the shop another time. This was 2 days last week and everything is finally OK for now. Crooks...

(as much as I loved my car in the summer, as fed I am with it right now. I wish the weather was better...)

The sticky velcro did not cure the creak in the rear passenger window as it came back with a vengance yesterday but does stop it rattling against the hood frame. After an hour in the dark in Halfords car park trying to pinpoint the exact cause I did trace the cause and fixed it at long last (dealers have tried in vain about 6 times). I got some spray lube for window seals from Halfords and sprayed it on the window seals and DOWN THE FRAME SEAL WHERE IT MEETS THE WINDOW PANE. Not a creak now but it will have to be applied regulary. I have fixed the majority of the creaks, rattles and knocks inside myself as the dealers do not put any real effort in trying to cure them. This is the same for all the different makes of car I have had. This creaking has been present in 3 different convertibles I have driven so I suspect a lot of you suffer with it too. It's particulary bad as it only affects the drivers side at ear level. Hope this helps.
