Da , da .daaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, Mr Minicabrio told me about some Autoglym roof cleaner and conditioner, and off i went to Halfords today and bought some and "hey presto" my roofs looking sweet
I'm not going on about it...but, i was sooo impressed with the Autoglym that i made Mr C come and look at the soft top, even he was surprised, Ive now recommended it to two other conv owners, its true, if you look after things and spend a bit of money, it'll pay in the end
Smells good too
Actually, it's not so much the white marks that bother me - they are treatable with fabfric hood cleaner as people have found out. But the shiny marks caused by the hood rubbing against iteslf when folded - that's a different matter. I have a number of shiny patches that are looking real unsightly (and I can't do anything to hide them!), but since it hasn't actually worn through the fabric, there's little sympathy from my dealer. It's normal, apparently, even if it seems to be unique to the MINI, and therefore a fault (or feature) of the roof design.
Just wanted to say a massive thanks to Minicabrio your a star!
Someone should make a sticky thread with all the best tips for looking after your Mini Cabrios.
I must admit I've never complained about the roof wear and when I brought my MCS I was quite aware of the problem and had see other Mini Roofs out and about with the problem. But it didnt put me off.
I had hoped I'd waited log enough for BMW to fix the problem but up till now I've lived with it hoping that one day they would come up with a magical fix or replace my roof. Which I wasnt too keen on the idea.
Best £19.95 I've ever spent the fabric hood cleaner is great. I'm still left like everyone else with the shiny marks but at least there not as noticable. Before I had loads of white marks that just looked a absolute mess.
I'd spoken to BMW about it on my last trip in and ended up purchasing the official BMW convertible shampoo. Which did absolutly nothing what so ever!
As a last resort I'd actually brought of ebay a Mini Convertible Dye Restorer thingy which said it could solve the problem. But from what I could make out its like paint which you apply with a brush and knowing my luck it would end up looking a state.
Thankfully due to Minicabios great advice my problems are solved now I just keep my fingers crossed that the rubbing doesnt become to bad and holes start to appear.
Anyhows I'm going to pass the message onto any Mini Cabrio owner that I meet on the street!
Spread the word!

Actually the sponge that comes with the Autoglym hood cleaner is excellent for aggravating the hood material just enough to reduce the shiny appearance after it has been flattened. My 06 gets its slightly at the hinges, i think its from the way it sits when it is down and i find they totally disappear once i have washed the hood. The Autoglym is a must for super fast spot washes after the car has been dive bombed by birds too!
I bought some Autoglym Cabro Cleaner for my 06 around the same time as I got it but it just hasn't needed it yet and my roof is up and down like a whore's drawers!
