Haha I remember sitting in a 911 getting pish wet through in a sudden strom waiting for a break in traffic so we could stop and put the roof up. Mind you driving through Hulme and Whalley range roof down in a porker isnt the best of ideas.
Theres a woman at work whos not long since had an MX5 dont think the roof has been off yet "not been nice enough" you bought it at the end of summer what did you expect. I nearly got a convertible last time round instead of the S I reckon the roof would have been down more than up.
My rule is - if it isn't precipitating then the roof goes down. Got my MCSC in November 2004 and getting ready for my 5th upstate New York winter. The roof sometimes does not want to go down when it gets down to minus 15 Celsius but with the bum warmers and the heater on full I have the top down the majority of the days and nights all year round.
Getting cought in the rain doesn't matter if you are travelling faster than 30 mph but all you need is a set of traffic lights or an overpass on the motorway and the roof is back up in 15 seconds.
I can also recommend topless night driving - the sky is amazing! - but there is a downside...over here I have been told that the cops will stop you if you are driving with the top down at night because they think you are trying to get the cold night air to sober you up...little do they know that the cold night air makes the supercharger work better :-)
Clear the snow of the roof, put the top down and get out and enjoy a breath of fresh air!
If you know how many MINIs you have you don't have enough ...
I'm not a hat wearer, so only keep a peaked cap for the times when the sun dazzles. Otherwise, a fleece (and the heated seats, of course ) is all I need to enjoy the topless experience.
But, if there's a back-seat passenger, then it's more of a problem, without the wind deflector it gets a mite breezy!
Deffinatly hat swaped now. I have 2 blankets in the boot too
We did the Italian Job with the roof down if it was not raining or snowing.
Has to be done
