Convertible Lid.... is this right?

Hi guys, now I've discovered this forum you're not going to get rid of me!!! Please say I'm posting this in the right place, it's all very confusing... is my car a 1st generation, 2nd generation?!?! I have absolutely no idea.

Anyway.... I'll ask anyway.

I have a lid query, I'm not sure if my lid is normal or if I need to get it looked at.

So, 1 press, takes back the first bit to form a sun roof type gap.
2nd press, keep your finger on, lid goes back, back windows go up, front windows up last.

If I take my finger off the button after the lid had gone down but before the back windows go up, and then press the button again, the action won't complete... it just kinda makes a droning noise and the windows won't move and I have to put them up with the other buttons.

Is this right??

If I keep my finger on from start to finish, it's fine... obviously re-pressing after the sunroof bit. Basically if the action is disturbed it won't finish off the job.

Anybody???

Thanks

TBH I don't know.

If I ever don't put the windows up in the same action as the roof going down, I use the windows up button. I am fairly sure that if you stop the action it doesn't start again. I think the old windows and roof mechanism has a bit of a mind of its own though.

The only thing I would worry about is the noise, but without hearing it I wouldn't know if it is something to worry about!

If you lower the roof fully but release the button before the windows come up, the windows won't come up if you press the button again. The roof action is complete. You will hear a whirring noise for 1-2 seconds though, as if its trying to wind the roof down again, this is normal and stops after a second or so.

If you do release the button, revert to the window button on the other side of the overhead panel for window operation

Pigeon Pie - My MCSC is the same as yours in that if I don't complete the cycle of the roof going down in one go; the windows need to be operated from the other buttons. I guess this is 'normal' to the design. Mine also makes that mechanical noise but I don't think it's anything to worry about TBH. Some people will of course want their windows to remain down so maybe this is why it is programmed how it is.

Just enjoy!

Thanks guys, my thread got moved!!! I really need to find out what generation my mini is to make sure I'm posting in the right place.

Seems my lid is ok then, phew!!!! When I'm topless I like to have the windows up, so I need to remember to keep my finger on the button without letting go.

Cheers again
