Please share your ideas on cleaning soft top from the inside.

Hi there guys.

The other day when my boy was siting behind, I notice some really ugly looking hand print on the
chrome roll bars I took some cloth and wipe it out and accidentally discovered that the fabric of the soft top immediately above the bars was extremely dirty. It happened when I polish the top of the bar and the cloth touched the top. It turn really dirty, black, kind of oily dirty.
I moved my hand around the roof and it seem it's above the passengers heads. No idea how it happened, perhaps while driving with the top down but it should not be so bad.
Anyway, any of you ever attempt to clean the top from the inside?
Any ideas or recommendations when comes to products and such ?

best regards

Sebastian

Just used to use a dyson and hoover all the fabrics, and then clean all the mechanism with a damp cloth, simple really and thorough if you do it in stages of being up, half folded down etc and you can get all areas then

Thanks Rakey

Before you mention dyson, I didn't even know it existed. Google it out and I'm seriously
considering getting one. Look way cool, neat, thanks again

Mind me asking one more thing, do you grease the mechanism with something to keep
it smooth working ? Or better I go to some service center ask them to do this for me?

I never greased it, and tried to avoid cleaning the grease areas as I tended to think it was there for a reason so not to mess with it. But then the metal and plastics which didn't have it those got a really good clean.

Things like the main plastics that you see when the roof is errected I used to use autoglym interior cleaner to make then all nice afterwards

Dysons are great, they do a special one I believe that is hand held and ideal for the car, but I just use that because its what I have for the house

When cleaning the mechanism I used to put a bit of general household oil (3-in-1) on a clean cloth, and then wipe the mechanism. The oil would remove any dirt, and also leave a fine amount of lubricant to prevent a squeaky mechanism.

Cleaning the fabric though would be tricky. As Rakey said above, vacuum the inside of the fabric to remove any loose dirt, and then perhaps wipe over with some interior wipes like these.....

Armor All - Product Detail

Hope that helps

My mother-in-law has one of those handheld Dysons, I used it yesterday actually when I was helping to clean up after dinner and it's really nifty. Takes ages to charge though - I think you need to charge it for 3 hours for 10 minutes use! Something like that... Going to try hoovering the inside of the roof with it sometime soon

Good call Rakey - though when I last considered the hand-held Dyson I was put off by the reports that the battery life was not that good. But maybe they have improved since then.....
