Gaps where hood meets bodywork

Hi. I'm looking to buy a 2004 Cooper Convertible.

The one I've seen is in very good condition overall.

However, on both sides there is a gap between the hood and the seals on the body where the roof folds when it opens.

Is this normal or should there be a tight fit all around.

I don't want to buy a car that leaks into the rear compartment.

Your advice is appreciated. Phil
