United-Kingdom looking after my convertible roof!

Hi, I've owned a mini cooper (2002) for the last few years but recently updated it for a mini one convertible (55 plate).
I'm a bit worried about how to upkeep the roof.. Its in very good condition for its age as the previous owner kept it garaged so it hasn't been exposed to the elements as much as some! However its got slight green algae/mould marks coming and very light wear marks (white marks?). Wondering what products people would use to get rid of these?
I also regularly would get my mini cooper cleaned down at the local polish hand car wash - they are very good and cheap!! However I am slightly scared now as to whether I should be letting them clean the hood and whatever product they may use - the language barrier is quite large so may be difficult to tell them to leave the roof!! I live in apartments so have no real access to cleaning my car myself!
Please help!!
Amanda

I wash my roof over with with the sponge and soapy water I use on the rest of the car when I clean it, it gets rid of the accumulated dirt and bits of bird crap.

Twice a year I use a proprietary cleaner and proofer, I use Auto Glym and afterwards the water beads nicely on the roof. I usually get it from Halfrauds as they seem to have a buy two get one free deal on cleaning stuff.

thanks, this is great help. what do you think as far as getting it washed at a hand car wash? I know they spray the car over with some sort of pink liquid first, just scares me in case its not safe for the fabric roof! Although I then think surely they clean enough convertibles that they know what they're doing..what are your thoughts? Think im just being a bit precious other it haha!

I wouldnt have a problem getting mine washed at one of those places and them doing the roof. Never have used them though because when I have had the inclination not to do it myself there is a horrendous queue.

My mate put his MINI convertible through the carwash - i wouldnt go that far though.

Hi ya

you should not jet wash or use a car wash on you convertible hood be careful what you use, the hoods are mohair so they take some careful looking after
you need a proper cleaner and protector as mid life mini says the autoglym is good, there is also
the 303 and gtechniq products are very good thats what i use on the GF's cooper and the 356 works great remember its ok washing and cleaning it but you must protect it afterwards. UV and road dirt etc will kill it over time

Mohair Convertible Roof [Archive] - Detailing World

i use these guys for my stuff very helpfull if you call them

303 Products - Clean Your Car

Gtechniq - Clean Your Car

hope this helps

ps sorry off at a tangent the gtechniq c4 trim restorer is the best i have come across for wheel arch trims not cheep but is the best and lasts
