Top sensors (not boot switches)

I have an 05 mini, lately it's been acting up. Occasionally it stops going down past the sunroof stage. It unmatched and then nothing. When latching it you have to hold the button a bit and it makes a noise then latches and then you can close the sunroof.

Now I've already taken an ohm meter to all of the switches in the trunk and everything checks out. I've checked the front buttons as well, all is fine. Now I did an experiment after stalking around some more. I left it in the su. Went outside at 10 am and it didn't work, again at 11. The. I parked her under a tree and 2 hrs later went down no problem. Then later that night once again down with no problem.

now the reason I tried that is cause I was reading about a sensor that tells the motor to shut off to prevent overheating. Is it possible this sensor has become too sensitive? If so where is it? Or is it more likely that somethings catastrophically wrong with the motor and it is overheating (which doesn't seem likely to me, never hirts to get opinions though)? Which once again not sure where they are, I have the general idea they're near the rear seats but how do you get to them comfortably? Also is there anything else like another sensor that could be causing this?

Thanks in advance for any advice and opinions on the matter. I really dislike dealerships
