Glove box issue

I just bought a 2007 Cooper S R52. Unfortunately the glove box refuses to open. The handle is in place but the center of it is missing (round opening in center of chrome lever). Is there any way I can open this without a crowbar.

I presume the lock cylinder is missing which disconnects the handle from the mechanism. Any suggestions?
Many thanks

I just got my s convertible and the glove box wouldn't open. I found I could get my fingernail up inside and hook the latch or I could use a paper clip shaped like a hook to grab the latch to get it open. (If you're small enough, you can lie on your back and look up into the void to see it.)
After I got it open, I fed a cable tie around the latch and cut it off to where I could grab it, but not see it. Opens easily.

Thanks for that Doxbike!

Sounds like you have the same glove box. I have tried pushing and pulling with a bent coat hanger, (half inch 90degree bend) for several sessions, total of a couple of hours. I cannot see what to hook onto. Mostly have been using a small mirror to look up as lying down and looking up does not seem to work for me. Any further help in what to pull would be extremely helpful.

You're trying to get hold of the seahorse shaped plastic latch and pull it down/forward. Mine had the piece broken off that attaches the latch to the chrome piece.

Stick your middle finger up into the hole, curl it back toward yourself (like you were trying to pick your nose, sorry, and see if you can hook the latch where the piece was broken off.
