Gen'l questions-convertible top and extra key

So I recently purchased an '05 s convertible (R52 I guess), but it only had 1 key. It also has a Scorpion alarm, which does work well. The local dealer says $100 for an extra key, and that is not with the remote feature, just a plain old key. I don't necessarily need the remote key, but would sure like to have an extra. Ebay has some for $5.99, but where to I find a place to cut the key?

Also, is it better from a longevity standpoint to use the top frequently, or use it as little as possible? It works fine and living in Southern California allows nearly daily use. As usual, I guess I shoulda checked these things before buying the car, but???
Thanks
