Lost in translation?

In some markets the MINI soft top will be MINI Convertible, while in others it will be MINI Cabrio.

Does anyone else think they should have got together and decided between them one way or another? Or is there some reason Cabrio wouldn't work for the world market, or Convertible for that matter?

Maybe sounds "convertible" more expensive
But i think, one name is better!
So for me is Cabrio the best name.

I know in the US the only "Cabrio" currently sold is VW's golf.

Its actually just called a VW Cabrio. Not the Golf Cabrio/Cabriolet or anything.

Audi's convertible A4 is called the A4 Cabriolet.

It wouldn't surprise me if VW had trademarked Cabrio in the US, or regardless, since its competition (Though I think its being cancelled due to the Beetle Convertible) MINI may be staying away from Cabrio/Cabriolet.

I'm sure most folks here in the US have no idea Cabriolet is the base word for the slang Cab and the name for the driver being Cabbie.

I'm sure the sof-top MINI is to be known as the 'convertible' and not 'cabrio' in the UK becuase BMW realised we'd all shorten the name to MINI-CAB!

BMW would not be too pleased at their new baby being associated with dodgy Nissan's and knackered Mondeo's begging for trade outside your local night-club on a Friday night!!!
