Oh Dear What Have I Done??

i ordered a MINI Cooper Convertible and originally, this was supposed to be delivered on 7 July. However, I've not heard anything from the dealer, so I suspect there will be a slight delay as he told me he would phone me a week before the car was due to be delivered to sort out bits and bobs.

Anyway, I ordered the car in Chilli Red, with white 17" wheels, mirrors and stripes. For the interior, I went for Black and Red half leather, red dash insert, chrome interior package and the chrono pack.

I've been desperate to see the inside of a car specced up as mine is as I originally had concerns that the red interior dash and door inserts would be too loud. After nipping round to Henry Brothers in Glasgow this evening to see a red one in the flesh, I'm very very worried. I absolutely hated the interior! I thought the red dash was garish and not at all easy on the eye, like the cool blue one I test drove at the weekend.

Admittedly the car I saw tonight was a One, didn't have the red and black seats (it only had plain black fabric seats) and it didn't have either the chrome interior or the chrono pack, but I'm very worried now that I've ordered a car that I can't live with.

Does anyone know a way out of my quandry? can I ask the dealer not to register my car until I see it? In the unlikely event that the car is not built and I still have the option to change the colour, does anyone know how long this might delay the delivery of the car (typically?)

Help!!

The only thing you can do is ring your dealer in the morning and ask him all these questions.

At least that way you will get the correct answers from the horses mouth so to speak.!

As to changing your spec... if your car is due in at the dealership in the next couple of weeks I would of thought was to late to change.

Well I spoke to my dealer this morning. He advised that the car would be here on Tuesday, so obviously, has been built! It will be pdi'd and then I'll get it Friday after work.

He is going to let me see it on Tuesday night and make up my mind - won't register it until I do. He did say though that if I didn't take it, I'd lose my deposit, which I'm not too pleased about, given the fact that there will be loads of people on waiting lists who'd be sure to snap it up.

I'm going to wait and see mine with my spec in it. I think the chrome line interior and black and red seats will make a big difference.

I'll keep you all posted. Thanks for your input.

Make sure you sit in the car when you judge the interior, as that's where you'll be viewing it from. Looking from outside the car in I thought the red looked too much, but once you're sat in it the perspective changes - steering wheel gets in the way, door panels to your side etc. Things'll look very different from the driving seat.....

I wish you all the best and I do hope you actually like your spec. It's just about the worst nightmare that can occur, I feel for you. The countless hours I've spent specifying different trims and colours is frightening. I'm even off to the factory soon to see if that changes my mind.

I saw a red mini one the other night at the dealers. I thought it looked a really classic combination, with the black hood. If you are feeling brave you could always take delivery of it and then try and sell it on. I've seen people on e-bay selling their cars, for £2k over spec, and even reservations for several hundred pounds. Have a look yourself. See what you think.

The red interior with the half leather seats will look great. I had that specced before I changed to an S with Hyper Blue.

We originally specced a MCS Convertible in Black Eyed Purple, but on the basis of a factory visit, where we saw a number of Red Convertibles, we changed to:

Chilli Red, White Mirrors, white 17" bullet alloys, white bonnet stripes, Chrome interior pack, heated seats, red dash, half leather with red inserts, multi function steering wheel, wind deflector.

Believe you me the red does look very funky - quite apt for a funky car!!

Hope you do like it when you see it

Good luck

Personally, I think the red interior dash trims looks bad - far too 'in yer face'. Some of the coloured trims look great, but IMHO red isn't one of them having seen it in one of our demos...

There is one possible ray of light if you don't like it - I'm sure it wouldn't be impossible to change the trims later on if you wanted to. Get a quote.

Red interior looks different - some people hate different! I thing the Red livens it up, too many cars are boring to look at and I can't see a major problem selling it at a later date. I'm just hoping you've not ordered it with a Dark Blue Hood!!!

My Cooper Convertible was Cool Blue/Cool blue interior and looked superb with the chrome.

I'm sure you'll love it! If you don't, keep it for 6 months and order another one then sell yours privately!

Personally, I have never been a big fan of red, but when I saw one with a red interior at my dealer's convertible launch, I thought it looked stunning! I am sure you will love it!

Thanks so much. That's quite reassuring as your spec is so very similar to mine. Another 24 hours and I'll be at the dealer's checking it out and making my mind up!

Yes thanks for this. That helps. Mine has the chrono pack too so that's more realistic. Mine also has the chrome line interior (which I am hoping will actually improve the look a bit...). Anyway, it looks mental, but the car has arrived at the dealer, I have a registration number and I'm going to see her tonight. All being well, I'll be picking her up on Friday after work. The look is growing on me now though. I feel a tinge of excitement after seeing that photo though (whereas before I was slightly dreading it!) so thanks for that!

I'll keep you all posted - with pics etc when I pic her up and I'll let you know tomorrow how it turned out! Thanks for all your input.

She's off with baited breath to see the car....
