cooper s convertible

Does anyone understand this. I asked when am i likely to get my car since the dealer AND BMW have said I will get it once it's built (16/7). Please will all MCSC buyers email BMW and let them know we will not be mucked around. They clearly don't want to give a straight answer "what is going on in Oxford?!". I am going on a factory tour on Monday and will ask them. Goonery do you know?

From: GBCustomerSupport@bmwfin.com

Thank you for your email to MINI Customer Services dated July 6, 2004
regarding your MINI Cooper S Convertible.

Please be advised that MINI UK have never released an official date for
this
vehicle and as such all dates that have been offered would be press
speculation. Our commitment to our customers and dealerships has been
that
the MINI Cooper S will follow shortly after release of the MINI One and
Cooper that was published to be July 2004.

As a company we do not offer guaranteed delivery dates for our vehicles
as
they can be subject to change and very much depend on demand. Once the
vehicle has passed through the Production stage will then have to
ensure
that the vehicle passes our stringent testing stages to ensure the
quality
of the vehicle.

We are expecting the MINI Cooper S to be released in approximately
September
2004.

I trust that the information I have supplied answers you query. I can
confirm that as soon as we receive final confirmation on when this
vehicle
will be released our approved dealerships will be able to notify you.

Yours sincerely

James Everitt
Customer Service Executive

Hmm...

They just haven't released the date yet. I'm fine with that. It's a new car, I knew it wasn't out yet when I ordered it, and it'll come when it comes. My dealership thinks they'll receive their first S's in August, but I'll be waiting for September plates anyway.

I'm considering a factory tour... can you post all about it when you get back so I know whether it's worth all the travelling? Pretty please?

Hi I have just finished working for bmw on the mini convertible, and the area I worked on was rectification and validation. Although I cant say much because of confidentiality, cars can be delayed if there are problems with roofs, trim, electrical, body, glass or mechanical faults. These cars are built to schedule but sometimes are delayed in going out if their is a specific problem. The car has to be checked twice over sometimes more. They wont release car till problem is sorted. They have made a few cooper s convertibles but not many...the majority of convertibles rolling of in my area was coopers and ones. Also each car is water tested so if they dont pass that the car has to go back on line for further checks to rectify problem. Hope this helps.

MINI Cooper S in HYPER BLUE undefined Chilli Pack, Heated mirrors/washer jets, Interior trim in body colour, Crome line interior, Front seat heating, Sat Nav, Single CD player, Radio Boost, Wind deflector, TLC, Tyre Insurance

Thanks

The email from BMW is poor. The One and cooper were release in late June not July. What I want to know is that if my car is ready now (and factory tour people have seen completed cars) will it be released now or in september? A "yes" or "no" would suffice. people have been offered delivery for example in August with the option of waiting until september for new reg. a possible implication is that this should not have been done and even if the cars are ready they will not be released even in August. In the normal scheme of things a car made last week would be at a Uk dealers this week ready for release!

I can see what you're saying.

Perhaps the official line on the one/cooper was July, but ultimately dealerships started releasing cars once they had them?

I doubt the dealers will be supposed to release cars earlier than the "launch" time, but it would be impractical for BMW to deliver the new cars to every BMW dealership on the same day. If a dealership is going to get its quota mid-August they're probably going to try and get rid of the cars ASAP, not just let them sit there.

I take it that email is from your dealership? Why don't you just call them, or go in for a coffee with your rep? To date, if there's something I've not been sure about or wanted to know, I've found the best way to sort it is to actually make an appointment and resolve my issues. Email is such an impersonal technology - the response you get by email from almost any company will be at least partly generic.

I spoke to my dealer yesterday and I was told that the actual status of my Cooper S Convertible is now 182 which means it has already been shipped to Zeebrugge and will now be transferred to my dealer in Germany. The official date for me is week 30, so I can't really understand the mail you've got.
I will post some hyper blue S photos in ~10 to 14 days (as soon as I've got ot here). Hope you get your MCSCs soon...

I'd work on getting your car in september. Some will arrive at the dealerships before then, but as Paul said they will be held back until the official launch date

This all tallys up with the information I'd been geting too (from most sources anyway). My only hope was that as yours seemed to be progressing then hopefuly mine would follow suit.

The current status of my order (1st MCSC slot at my local dealer) is that it is changeable (but changes will cause construction delay) and scheduled for build week 30 (17th July). I don't know if this is something that can be relied upon.

I asked my dealer to call Mini, 1 person said July build, two others said it will be delayed until mid september.

If it gets delayed I will be peed off as when the dealer offered me the order, Mini had told him that the launch will be in July so I transferred my MCC order to the MCSC and I was hoping to get some summer use out of the car. It will make things much worse if they don't keep people informed, I have an option to buy a cancelled MOC in the meantime but can't make a decision until I have the facts.

I am getting frustrated as I have sold my other car too and have a driving holiday booked early september in france (not much fun in my wifes Micra!!)

Cheers, Peter

Well they managed to build this one - it was so comfy my gf (Emma) fell asleep on it
I know there has been some delay and have heard one or two reasons as to why but dont think it should be to much later than thought - am sure it will be worth the wait - even if it is frustrating.

There are hundreds of dealers around the world that need to have their first Cabrio S cars for their showrooms. The first builds is needed for that reason.

Yes but MY car is built! and BMW won't say when I'm going to get it. I understand dealers too want their demonstrators and are being treated with misinformation just as much. It is completely bizarre. Is there a launch date or not?. The UK dealers don't know and BMW "customer service" seem to be making it up as they go along. I can't see the point of buying a convertible for the UK winter.
Having originally been assurred by BMW customer service, senior staff at the motor show and my dealer that I would get my car soon after manufacture because there was no official launch it has all gone quiet and vague emails as above do not help.
Like many people who have sold cars, made arrangements for travel on clear indications given by delalers about delivery I just want a definitive answer. Do BMW never come across control freaks?
Ultimately my only option is wait or cancel............
-and cancelling is the only thing I CAN control

Apparently it is worth travelling as other posts will testify. I decided not to go today because to see my car and still not be told when I could get it would be even worse. I am waiting for my dealer to let me know when I will get my car today (it is now built). There is still no launch anounced. I will almost certainly cancel my order today because I know I will not get a clear answer -so there will be a very highly specced car available whenever BMW decide to release it. I put my reasons for cancellation in a post yesterday but it has been deleted (too critical of BMW?)-so I'll not repeat them lest this be deleted as well.

It would be such a shame to cancel your order just because they haven't released your car to you yet.

As far as I am aware, no MCSC's have been released to the public yet. Whether your car has been built or not, I'd imagine you'll receive it at the same time most other dealerships receive their first car.

I can understand why you're angry, but I would seriously consider waiting until the car arrives. If it's in perfect condition and looks stunning, as I strongly suspect will be the case, then of course, take it! You'll almost certainly be receiving your car mid-August.

However, if the car *looks* like it's been knocking around for a month, it's still not too late to cancel and have your deposit back. Less haste my man, less haste!
