The last seven digits are the important ones. Any dealer can tell you all about your car with those.
I could, for instance, tell someone in America the exact spec of his car if I had the last seven digits of his chassis number.
That's good, but not as good as what I can do at work. A dealer can tell you the complete spec of a vehicle from the last seven. There's no access to that from outside of the dealer network though.
I often look at my spec at work - just to remind myself I have 3 pages of spec. Ask Minty about that. His one page of spec to my three annoys him, and he also thinks it's sad I can remember the last seven digits of my chassis number off by heart.
BMW are obviously paying you too much to have to time to read through 3 pages and even, to be able to afford three pages of stuff Getting lots of ashtrays are we?!
I entered the last 7 characters of the VIN of my new Cooper S coming next week and I get this ...
Vehicle code RA11
Series R50
Model One 1.4i
Body type coupe
Catalog model ECE
Production date 2002 / 02
Engine W10
