i take the Astro Black - because i always think that plain black takes away all light and looks dull and not so deep when not cleaned perfectlly...the Astro Black looks like an Effect colour with a deep Blue touch to it and lots of little Metallic dots (like the Dark Silver has). Another Point is that the Solid Black is very hard to keep clean and get lots of little scratches as you drive through the carwash. It has the worst Paintquallity of all BMW Colours afaik....

A Renault dealer once told me that black paint is the softest of all paints, which is why it tends to scratch more - he also mentioned that yellow was the hardest finished colour. I guess you also need to bear in mind that the undercoat/primer is white so any scratches on a black car are really noticable. BTW I believe Mazda are the only manufacturer who match the colour of the base layers to the top coat to minimise the effect of scatches...good idea...

This one I can talk about, as my MCC is Astro Black, and IMHO it's a much better option than solid black. I have also heard the soft paint story, which is solved by metallic colours. Astro black looks very cool! Goodbye TinTop Red & Black, Hello Astro Black Cooper Convertible!

thanx for the comments . i have phoned my dealer and changed to astro black at a cost of £250, as i'm sure this is the black i would have chosen had i been given the option when i first spec'd, but for some reason wasn't. hopefully it will be easier to keep clean and the inevitable scratches not so obvious. roll on 1st of september

| I'm with Paul, we have a astro black on order (should arrive 20th Aug) and called at our dealer yesterday and was shown two hard top coopers side by side - one astro and the other solid black. There is no competition!! Astro looks fantastic where as the solid does look flat (as the other post said earlier) so good choice, you will not be disappointed with the colour - will they Paul??? | godd choice change- Ive had my Cosmos Black Cooper for 3 years now adn its a bugger to clean, loads of small 'scratches' from cloths/ brushes etc. I'm awaiting my Astro Cab soon. Yes. Black is the softest paint as my last 4 cars were black only the wifes metallic black Ka looked the business after a year still looked "scratched free" and it washed a lot better. |
