Keys - help!

Not exclusively Convertible but I've been given 2 keys and a plastic jobby.
Only one key has remote functions on it.
That means if I lock it with the remote and Gill unlocks it with the other key via the lock the alarm goes off.
Is that right? Is there any way around it?
Confused of Whitchurch.

That is messed. Should have 2 keys with remote. I know the ocnvertable is supposed ot have the new kys - but this shouldn't change. Don't have an alarm myself - so can't help on that side.

Unlock the door, and put the key in the ignition and that will stop the alarm going off, the same applies for the walet key if the alarm has been set. Should work anyway.

The "non-remote" key has buttons on it but they do not do anything. It looks exactly the same as the remote key.
Does it need programming? Can I do it? The dealer is an hours drive away - and the car is not registered until 1 Sept so I cannot take it there!

There could be a battery involved.

Consult your manual (page 22 of mine) for the instructions on changing the battery in your key. Maybe the dead key has a dead battery. I think you might be able to swap batteries between the working and non-working key to 'test' a battery. You will have to initialize the keys according the manual if you remove the battery (also page 22 and 24).

I wouldn't play with it - just take it straight back to the dealers and get it fixed - it's definitely wrong.
