Comparison between rag top n tin top road tax?!... why the price difference?

Hi!
The road tax on my tin top ONE is due for renewal (1st Sep). Got the usual letter through to remind me, and on it, as usual it gives the 6 month and 12 month fee...
6months = £68.75
12months = £125.00

.... but when we looked at the road tax on our ONE convertible it is £23.50 more for 12 months (ie. £148.50)....

I don't understand why this is?... thought tax was based on engine size?!

anyone able to shed some light??!!

Banded CO2 production now. Emissions of ONE C are greater because it is heavier/less aerodynamic

Car tax is actually based on CO2 emissions, not engine size.

The MINI One Convertible falls into Band C Petrol (166-185g/km).
The MINI One Hatchback falls into Band B Petrol (151-165g/km).

That's the reason your Convertible is more expensive than the Hatch to tax.

Complete rip-off in my opinion but what can you do...

HTH.

Richard.

'bout time they got rid of road tax and just chucked a bit more tax on petrol, then it would be fair according to mileage and economy - no-brainer mr chancellor

Or how about doing away with Car Tax (used to be called Road Fund Licence to pay for road repairs and we all know the state of the roads over here) and reducing the duty on petrol too (aparently we have the cheapest petrol in the EU until the government adds the duty and tax onto it) and get the money from more people than just us road users!!!!!!
