What Happens to Sunroof Mode @ Greater than 75MPH?

I've been informed time and time again that the sunroof mode ought not to be operated at speeds exceeding 75 MPH. That's fine and all - I don't intend to be using the sunroof mode much, but does anyone know (either through hearsay or personal experience) what happens when you drive at greater than 75 MPH in the sunroof mode? Does it cause the roof to collapse when the wind is blowing hard, resulting in permanent damage to the roof mechanism?

Spoke to the salesman about this one as I was wondering if you had the sunroof open if it closed itself once you hit 75mph. He assured me that nothing happens - if its open it stays open and if its closed it will stay closed all that happens is that you cannot move the roof.

I guess it is stable open or closed (as with the full convertible) its just the transition from one to the other thats the problem and thats why you cannot alter its position when your travelling over 75mph

Just one question - are you allowed to go at more than 75mph where you live then???

Ah - thank you for the explanation.

Not according to legal speed limits - most of the freeways in the San Francisco Bay Area are limited to 55 or 65 MPH, but 75 MPH is my "safe-speeding" speed (without being pulled over by the law enforcement officers), and hence my average freeway velocity. If there wasn't a speed limit, I would like to think that most of us would be more than happy to push our Minis to their limits.

May I inquire what the highest legal speed limit is in your region?

Hi!
You can put the roof from fully closed to the sunroof position up to speeds of 70mph (or close it up to this speed). You are not supposed to open it exceeding this speed.
You can have it (the sunroof section) actually open at any speed +/- 70mph.... it doesn't damage the roof or anything... it's just very drafty!!

hope that clears things?!

The highest legal speed limit here in the UK is 70mph, on motorways and dual carriageways.

But if you go over to Germany, some autobahns over there have no speed limit at all

Richard.

We have to stick to 70mph - and when I get my new MOC I will be doing just that - why pay all that extra money for a convertible and then race around so no one can see me!!

Apparently its very uncool to race around anyway. You're supposed to cruise around really slow in your cool car, apparently

The car can be DRIVEN at faster than 70mph with the sunroof open - you just can't make it open or close above 70 (actually, it says 75mph in the manual).

The noise when the sunroof is open but all of the windows are closed is *TERRIBLE* at these speeds. However, open the door windows just a few inches and the noise almost completely goes away....weird!
