United-States Convertible in Winter

I am so excited. I checked the miniusa website and my chili red MCSC is in production!!
It should be here in about 3 weeks.
I plan to drive it through October as we get a fair amount of snow here in CT.

Does any one else put their baby to sleep for the winter??
What do you do for a peaceful hibernation?

I wish people would stop calling their car "my baby".

Its a car, not a person, it is inanimate.

Mine was purchased in November 04. It has come through the winter parked outside every day, with no problem whatsoever. No rear window imploding (thank god - although some have). Roof wear/scuffing above the passenger seat windows, is the only major problem so far, which I was told today has finally been acknowledged by BMW.

Even managed to clean it sometimes twice a week (suffers from a lot of muck spraying up the back end) in -2 degrees C.

Going back to your question. Does anyone else put their car away for winter? Either they have a few bob and can afford a runabout. Or should save their money, not buy a MINI or any other new car, and just catch a bus.

There's a few threads on storing your car for winter in the maintence forum. People seem to have done it and everything worked out fine, but none of them were convertibles, though that shouldn't make much of a difference.

Of course you can also take your MCSC up to frozen northern quebec if you like, check some of the last pages of the hudson bay trip thread, though I'd advise against testing the theory that it will survive being flipped into a snowbank.

Either storing it or driving it you should be fine, as long as you plan and take appropriate actions beforehand.

Magic 8-ball was correct. All be in awe of Magic 8 ball.

I drove it all winter the top DOWN, except when it was too warm and rained. Been down to -30C with the top open.

Only turned it over once.

However, this is NOT a sleep thru winter car. Put on snows, go out and DRIVE.

Click the link and see some winter driving pics. MINI does just fine all the seasons.

I agree. The reason I'm getting rid of my Miata and getting a MCSC is to have a convertible I don't have to park all winter.

Hi Kerrie

Not sure whether the link about will work but that's where some of us have been chatting. As to going topless, I've been doing that already as has Jon (Minicabrio.uk). Just got back from a week in portugal - actually met up with Jon while we were out there for a meal - no mini meet though, a Fiat Punto and a Seat Ibiza - bet you don't even know what they are!!!??

Havn't heard from helen in a while but she has recently moved so that may be the reason.

Bet the weather is good with you???

Anyway, it's been a long day with the flight etc so I'll catch you another time and try getting us all on the other link!!

Re Putting the Mini to bed during the winter

I have a tin top Mini which I use in the winter and when it's tipping it down in the summer (which doesn't leave many days) and use my nice shiney conv what bit of the year is left.

When not in use it is tucked up in the garage. I have had the socket in the boot of the conv wired to 'always on' and plug a trickle charger in so that the battery does not run down. I'm now hoping for a great summer!

My mini IS my winter car!

Drove it roof down when ever I could - not as cold here as where DUCTTAPE is but pretty chilly all the same.

If you are storing it for winter as your dealer for advice - but I'm sure it's advisable to put it on a trickle charger and do something with the tyre pressures (just can't remember whether it's lower or raise them though)

I was just rereading all this.

SEVEN! That's great. I have 4 and my wife was non-too happy about MINI and it's seating only (effectively) me!

Now, if I could only get the other 3 to move out of the house...
