Question about wind deflector

I haven't actually seen a wind deflector in person. How does it affect access to the rear seat? Does it have to be removed/replaced as someone gets in and out of the rear seat?

You're 100% correct. Rear seat is unusable for passengers with the wind defelctor in place. The good news is that it only take a couple of minutes to fit or stow away. I do a freeway drive daily to work and wouldn't be without itn as it really does make a difference to the turbuence in the cabin.

me sad that Mini charges almost 400 bucks for this. My friend has an Audi TT convertible and its actually built in and you press a button and it pops up.

I absolutely agree - the deflector should come with the car, not a cost-plus extra. IMHO it's an essential item, and makes a huge difference to life in the cabin...

Question for one of you that has the wind deflector: when it's installed, how much room is there between the horizontal portion and the rear seats? How about with the rear seats folded down-- how much room is there?

Reason I ask, I'm picking up my new MCC this week, and I'll be making a solo 1800 trip in it in June. I'll have way too much stuff for just the trunk, so a couple of airline-carry-on-sized suitcases will have to ride in the back seat; would the fact that those suitcases are there prevent me from using the wind deflector?

you'll be fine with that sized luggage. I went shopping today and bought a new duvet which came in a box and that fit nicely under the wind deflector.

Yesterday I had a passenger in the back nicely stowed away too - he said it wasn't the most comfortable journey he had but it was amusing to see!

I'm assuming that your passenger was horizontal across the back seat? In my original post, what I really wanted to determine was whether I will be able to have child passengers in back while the deflector is in place. I have the impression now that I will not (or at least not safely).

You're correct, you couldn't have anyone sitting in the back. The deflector sits like an L over the rear seats, so not only do you have the verticle part blocking access, you also have the horizonatal part at the bottom as well. Aside from a contortionist riding unsafely, I don't see how it's even possible to sit someone back there.

I've neen debatng about whether to spend the $$ on one. Does it really make a huge difference in the wind turbulence in thecabin at speeds over, say, 50 -60 MPH? I saw here that it's easy to put up and take down - someone else told me it was a giant pain...any users out there to comment?

I have one, and love it. It is easy to install or remove and makes it possible to ride with the top down on a cold day. I was on the freeway at 70 mph in 50 F weather.

Wind deflector is great. Just went to our first minikana at Eastern Creek Raceway and zoomed down the freeway doing 110 -120 kms with hardly a hair our of place. Find it works the best with the windows up but when they were first released the MCSC in Australia our dealer tried to charge me $820 Aus Dollars, i told him i will have the wind in my face before i pay that but after the first month the dealership decided to include them with the convertibles. So i borrowed one and told them they r not getting it back, why should i be penalised for being their first MCSC customer. Mind u the cost if ordered with the car was only $599, bit of a difference. I actually asked about this while i was waiting for my MCSC to the head of mini Australia and he told me probably around $200 but i said i reckon $400 as BMW will push the price up just for being BMW, so he wasn't even close.

No way u can safely have passenger but so easy to remove and put back even a blonde like me can do it.

Hope everyone else is happy with the convertible, only problem for me is the truck sounds on the freeway and the truck drivers who think it is great to perve on a blonde in a convertible, i dont mind the looks, its the sleazy comments i object to, but as soon as i get a break in the traffic the only thing they see is the dust.

Wouldnt change it for quids.

Where is it stored in the mini, I know its somewhere in the boot, but where?. I may have it, but dont know even I have it? Please tell me where is it stored just to check if its there or not?

If you bought it, you would know. It does not come with the convertible, it has to be bought separately from the dealer. When folded, it has a carry pouch that fits in the boot.

It's kind of difficult to explain, but on one end, (the one without the screw in the hinged part), the slidy bit (that pushes out the lug that fits in the hole at the front) can actually be pushed back in away from the edge of the deflector and this releases the hinged part so you can fold it back on itself.
